Pigeon Talk

I went to the zoo yesterday and they had a fantail in with what I think were a few owl pigeons. They also had one odd looking mix between the two with a short face and halfway fanned tail.

I saved a pigeon today! it was a feral I saw, hobbling and it's feet stuck together with fishing line. I sprinkled some corn I brought for the ducks, and got it to come close. I then grabbed it. Got my pocket knife out and started cutting. I got one foot totally free, and the other mostly, but string still caught on the left toe... :( it slipped out of hand a before so got it all, but it should make it.

Lost my little roller baby today :( I have no idea what happened. :hit

Loft fly will be happening an hour and a half before sunset.

Sorry for your loss.:hit
Great day for the feral! So many lose toes or even a foot from string entanglements. Happy flying.:frow

Great on you for helping the feral @backyard pigeons that is a major cause of injury to them.

Just a small update today. Rosie and Olive are doing well together. Rosie is definitely more attached and follows Olive everywhere she flies by running comically. When it's time to go in the "coop" as I am calling the playpen cage now I just have to herd her a bit with outstretched arms and she will scurry and make a beeline wherever she is in the house back to the bedroom and into the coop. Olive doesn't know what to think of that, I have to pick her up to put her back.

We also found out that the little fleece beds, when they drop onto wood chips, stick to the woodchips like velcro and take a lot of picking to clean off, I think they're probably best left out of this new enclosure. Both birds have taken to roosting laying down in the wood shavings anyway, and not on the ledges where I had set the beds.

As promised, I released the stray with mine today. She flew with them shortly then I lost sight of her. When mi e came in to land she wasn't amongst them. :( About 5 minutes later guess who returned! :)

she had a good old wander around and fluttered about with mine, then I called them in for a bit of dinner and hey presto!

ash is furthest away and the new red is closest on the right! Looks like I've got me a keeper!
