Pigeon Talk

Seems to be working!
They haven’t gone down to the branches I hung yet, but they are on the other end. They have gone out and flown, pecked around on the ground for a while, and head back in. Then out again. :clap

That's such a neat set up for them! :thumbsup

Ok, thanks. And it's just one feather? Thank you soooo much for sharing! I will share my results if I get any.

So sorry about your white hen.:hit

That's really interesting.
I'm going to try it and fly them daily next week and see what happens. With how many BOP I have in the area it won't take long to figure out if it works. I hope it does!

Something oil based or it will wash off in the water, just dont get it on the bird's body. A non-toxic spray paint like Rustoleum (sprayed in a cup and then brushed on) is what I'd use as it dries fastest.
Another option,,,,,,,,, is to make a slit opening, in a cardboard. Stick feather thru, and have someone spray-paint it as you hold bird on other side of cardboard.
For the black bar,,,,,, make a template and place over yellow, and spray a shot.
This would be easier to do multiple birds this way, and faster.:)

I'm guessing this is just kinda coincidence, and it actually doesn't deter hawks.... But If it does, this could change the sport of free flying birds, racing, and roller competitions.

I wonder if it just slows the raptor down enough for the pigeon to have time to react\get in the air. If it works well, I *wonder* if this would put sourland back in business... It would be very hard though to repeat it again, without knowing for sure if things would work out.

They decided that the duck feed was good enough for them to eat
And one found the swings.

My flock of 5 aren't exactly a huge sample size but I'll definitely try it. The Coopers' in my area are pretty determined, however, so I'm going to start slow with maybe just my best fliers out first.
By August my hawk numbers are down slightly but my birds have been pretty hard to get in the air lately, for the past month when I have been able to get them out they've been sitting on my roof. I'm not sure how well the paint trick will work to deter hawks from birds sitting around as opposed to in the open air but I'll report my results.
