Yeah. There's alot to be said about some of the show birds. The type of breeding must impede there ability to function normally. I'm not sure if this breed is in America, it probably is, its called a holle cropper and is identical to that fantail but minus the fantail.Your fantails might not be up to breed standard but they are certainly healthier in appearance and form and their "flaws" give them character.
I would pick fantails like yours over these any day.
I'm finding that the more I learn about some of the show breeds the more I prefer the less desirable examples of the standard.I don't know how it can eat or drink normally at all.
There is something very old world about the first two. The second looks kind of like a barb. They're alot smaller. The first time I saw one with the enlarged nares I thought it had pox!I'm finding that the more I learn about some of the show breeds the more I prefer the less desirable examples of the standard.
For example with these English Carriers, I find the first pair to be much nicer looking than the second bird with the massive wattles.

As to the shared run I would say if it's large enough, like maybe 15ft x 30ft min, with bird netting protection over the top then the risk is much lower. If it's small like 6 x 10 then there's a much higher risk of aggression. Of course providing the right perches and landing zones for your pigeons to perch safely out of reach of the chickens is essential. Can I ask you what your predator situation is like in your area? If I were to do a bigger outdoor area where they can get some good flying in I’d like to just have it be the chicken run as well. I have 3 that get let into their attached run 24/7 with the odd free range here and there on my weekends. The little coop is on the same side that the pigeon pop door is on so I can easily make it a shared space. Unless it would be better to not have them share a space ?
Agree. If cornered by chickens the pigeon can be killed. Very risky.@ChickenTenderKesha that depends on your chickens and if theyd be safe when your pigeons land in a shared space, as a chicken can easily kill a pigeon if it so wished. Along whith pass on diseases the pigeons could be susceptible to.
I love your fantails! Showy tails without being extreme, upright posture without the cringe-worthy neck bend of the American version. The posture of the Indian version is less so, but still a bit much Imo. Bottom line I like yours, ... Are they called garden fantails?View attachment 1943404 View attachment 1943405 this pair, although I call them garden fantails are actually a poor example of a British indian fantail, hence how I came about them. Neither has feathered legs like one should and only one has a crest. But they are beautiful nonetheless. They stand alot more 'normal' than some other breeds of fantail.

he's gonna have a tough show to judgeWell. A bunch of Figurita breeders on the National website no longer breed, but I found a judge going to the louiseville show next week who will make me a list!
Hope you won your bid!I'm at the show! It is amazing. I am gonna get pics tommorrow. I got some rare colored homers on the way up, got 50 pounds of food, and am bidding on the silent auction for the Portuguese tumblers...
he's gonna have a tough show to judgeTheres a bunch of up to standard birds. One guy is showing 40! He bred 150. I might be getting a few.
I'll get his # if you want. He's got all colors.
Yep! 4-6 oz. Smallest breed in the world. Unless it's an unusually large one.Hope you won your bid!
Are Figuritas small? Bantam pigeons?![]()
