Pigeon Talk

:love but we have three human toddlers twin 2s and a 1 yr old. Donno how thatll work yet. I have kicked every other pet out at least during the daytime:thumbsup except my buttons. I allow the dogs to come in after the kids go to bed to sleep inside but thats it. Too much work keeping the house clean enough for such young children with pets.
JMO,,,,,,, I would hold off on keeping pigeons inside home with lil angels.

Their lungs may be vulnerable to pigeon dust:hit:hit:hit

dander/hair/feathers
Dog hair, dander , and other bird feathers are not in same health concern as Pigeon dander.
I know you keep your home SUPER CLEAN, and use HEPA filters if I recall correctly. Your exposure to pigeon dust is minimal then.
I offered my opinion on children being exposed to it. NONE IS BEST.

Fantails are a good choice. Mine seem pretty chiiled. There is a good variety of garden fantails :thumbsup

:clap im pretty excited he said that! they are one of my favorite type with the jacobins very high up there too. ive seen fantails in person at a swap years ago and being here, yours really reinforced the beauty!

I had considered pigeon lung and it def needs to be on our radar constantly no matter where we decide to house them as i have a breathing condition. I do understand pigeon dander is more dangerous than any other. We already use one HEPA air filter because the teenager has allergies to pollen and ragweed but its in her room. So with Any indoor bird i guess i would need to add a second one near the bird cage. Our home is Not as clean as Mr Serins. Try as i might --theres just no way. Ive eliminated some messy things but it is def a reason im dragging my feet. I have shot down any new pet for a long time.

Angels :gig you mustve forgotten what toddler life is like  now multiply it by 3! kidding aside, really i have em trained to put away all their toys at nap and bed times so I can sweep and vaccum everyday(and walk!) Its still a mess

I don't know. Pigeons are messy birds because they're seven or ten times as big as a parakeet, but they are much less so than an average 70 lb dog as far as dander/hair/feathers I'd say, and that's considered a conventional house pet.

:sick one of our dogs is a german shepherd who sheds a pillow everyday :sick

What wire did you use? I can’t really tell, there’s too many lines for my eyes to focus..
In the garden section at Ace Hardware I found 4 ft rolls of wire fencing with openings about 2" x 4" that closely matched the kennel. I also chose the dark green color over the normal silver metal color, again to blend with the kennel. I used Zip Ties to join fencing pieces to top of kennel and to each other. So easy.:)

Can I ask you what your predator situation is like in your area? If I were to do a bigger outdoor area where they can get some good flying in I’d like to just have it be the chicken run as well. I have 3 that get let into their attached run 24/7 with the odd free range here and there on my weekends. The little coop is on the same side that the pigeon pop door is on so I can easily make it a shared space. Unless it would be better to not have them share a space ?

this pair, although I call them garden fantails are actually a poor example of a British indian fantail, hence how I came about them. Neither has feathered legs like one should and only one has a crest. But they are beautiful nonetheless. They stand alot more 'normal' than some other breeds of fantail.
