That was a complete guess! I was going on length!Yep. Black flecking on the males tail...
They're looking good! Is that a little quail I spy! How are you getting on with training? Did the last of the missing ones return?

training is going great! I only lost one, that time where they spent the night at Pigeon Inn... They have gone out to 10 miles so far... They just finished a 5 mile one, from the opposite direction. They're looking good! Is that a little quail I spy! How are you getting on with training? Did the last of the missing ones return?

I had no problems with my pigeons interacting with my chickens. (disease issues) During winter I kept some of my banties together with the pigeons. They did not mingle much, but ate same feed, and drank same water. Kept the Large fowl in same loft area, but separated in their eastern half section. Never encountered any lice, or fleas, or mites in my flocks..I don’t know how worried I should be about shared diseases considering the pigeons will be living in the main chicken coop in part of the top peak portion
Beauties! Ash red cock, split for blue. Here's my Portuguese tumblers I got from the show. View attachment 1945369 View attachment 1945370 View attachment 1945371 View attachment 1945372
Can you guess which is male and which is female by their tails? You may have to zoom in...

I'm not sure if I saw them, but did smear some Crisco Shortening over their legs, and chickens stopped picking on their leg scales.

The only problem I could forsee regarding lice is getting redmite. I had redmite in my chickens and it has driven me insane trying to get rid of them for the past few years. This year I hit them hard with everything and I think I've managed to just about sort them. Fortunately they didn't get into the pigeons. I had to sort the pigeons before I sorted the chickens and I use different poop buckets, scrapers, brushes etc. I am paranoid about cross contamination of anything. We used to keep pigeons and chickens together at the old farm I worked at. Old production leghorns and all the offspring from a large group of homing pigeons plus any ferals that might have joined them.
We did get lice issues but I think it’s because they had ferals flying with the pigeons that sometimes ended up living with them and the chickens![]()
