Rest in Peace 1953-2021
Thanks... I think she's good.
She's gotten picky with her seed and doesn't want to eat her peas anymore. I don't give her any new seed until every pea is gone, but it takes a while. When I give her a new scoop she acts like she's never seen food before. I figure she will eat if she is hungry, don't want her wasting her food and not getting a balanced diet.
She used to love the peas, but now she views them with disdain.
With mine the peas rise and fall in popularity. There are several types of peas. The maple peas are slightly. smaller and darker in color, and twice as expensive as Canadian field peas. Left behind in my feed mix tends to be first wheat grains and second Canadian peas. Corn also goes up and down in desirability, more so in cold weather. I like to let them choose their diet as long as the fatty seeds like safflower, corn, peanuts, etc are kept to a reasonable percentage.
Using a pelleted pigeon mix - some are now made from crushed seeds only - is really an interesting option. Mine still tell me they like to choose each individual seed separately, it's what they do and they find it enriching. They do not want eating to be more boring. YES, I SWEAR, that's what they said!
