That looks greatI’m back on page 889, I haven’t been checking this as much as I want to..
BUT I have an updated pigeon crate to show everyone. They are still living happily in my front porch as of this moment, now with a better view!

The stand is made from my extra milk crates I haven’t turned into nest boxes and and extra piece of 3/4 inch plywood we had left over from fixing the horse shed. The platform inside the crate is some plywood I removed from the little chicken coop I had bought from someone online and some random pieces of barnboard that was cut off the little coop when we installed the window. The sand was an extra bag from making the chickens dust bath, held in by some empty feed bags I had laying around. I like being resourceful and using what I have on hand to make stuff, it’s convenient because we don’t throw away extra materials![]()
Looks reasonable. They are normally alot more pricey than that.Hmm, I'm considering these two.

Ive only done the fleece inside the house. Sorry for the delay, my computer broke so I am on briefly using a friends ipad.okay. it is an odd, small, tight box that isn't ideal, and a Styrofoam box would be extremely difficult to get to fit. but the thought crossed my mind, and for the racer babies, I will do that if its to cold, since they have a bigger box. thanks so much for the reply, CCUK!
okay. I think I'm gonna bring them. ill bring them back out in the early morning. I could do the fleece, but I'm a little nervous about them suffocating. have you ever done fleece? Thanks so much for the reply bio!
that's alright. So, I lost one.Ive only done the fleece inside the house. Sorry for the delay, my computer broke so I am on briefly using a friends ipad.
How are they now.
Good update. Sorry you lost those birds. It sucks. Hope your feeling better now after your fever. The life of a fancier is certainly full of trials and tribulations.that's alright. So, I lost one.a racer. I don't know what happened, the parents were on it during the night, but it was dead in the morning. No canker. It was the smaller of the two, so it may have been squished, but I don't think it was that far behind where it could have been squished.
The same morning, I found one of my new birds from Rogers Homers (split2ndloft) dead on the floor. It's left side had blood around it's ear and eye. Do you think it either ruptured its eardrum? Is that possible? Or maybe it got spooked by something during the night and it tryed to fly and hit a sharp wire\nail with its eye? I don't know. But either way, these deaths were to close together for me, so with the flu and a 101.5 fever, I raked out the loft, and bleached water and food pans.
Oh the life of a pigeon fancier.
All the birds otherwise seem healthy, good droppings, active, etc. I do have to many birds in that loft, but I am waiting for them to start pairing up. I want 3 pairs of white homers, and three pairs of racing homers for breeding. Right now I have 2 pairs of racers, and 2 pairs of whites.
I have started flying three pure white homers. They are gorgeous! I love watching them flap their wings! so I am flying 12 birds right now. Not together yet, because the white homers are just starting.
I lost a racer on a loft fly. when I got him (from the gentleman who races in my town) his wing feathers were destroyed. A rat during the night had eaten them. So, from the advice of the gentleman, I clipped his wing feathers. He could not fly well for the longest time. Up until a few weeks ago that is. He started flying up to a low spot in a tree. Well, three days ago he slowly went from his low spot to another branch to another branch. Before long he was in the very top of a tree. He then took off with the racers flying, but he just couldn't keep up. I lost sight of him. I think he got exhausted and went down somewhere, and probably got hit by a hawk.he was a fun little guy.
So sorry for a long post. There was alot update you guys on.![]()
