Pigeon Talk

Also is there anything I should be giving him for his tail? I lifted up the feathers and saw the holes at the base of his tail where the big feathers were ripped out. He doesn't seem to be in pain.
I once had a bird slip out and when I tried to grab it, I pulled all the feathers out of its tail. It was loose for 2 days, because it wasn't trained yet. (It is now in my group that has been tossed 90 miles.) It couldn't slow down or stop, so it was quite a pathetic sight. :( I felt really bad. Thank fully, I got it back. I never did anything for its feathers, and they grew back just fine.

To be honest, I wonder... have you considered someone trying to catch the bird and grabbing only it's tail feathers, like me? The hawk may make more sense, but if it's relatively friendly, it may have been around people.

I was wondering also if maybe a human was left with a fist full of feathers.

Their fat remaining child opened its eyes today! The runt I was gonna have them brood died yesterday evening, I suspect it's digestive track wasn't working like it was supposed too :/ it was taking in food but not growing or defecating. Luckily it appears this baby has been the fighter of the brood and should be good from here out! Full crop, open eyes, and aggressive enough to keep mom and dad on task!

I lost both the arc eggs today. I checked them last week and they were both fertile. The veins were developing. I went to check them yesterday afternoon and they had both been crushed :barnieI have removed them and just put plastic eggs under her. I'm going to be moving things around next weekend. I have advertised 5 of the fantails for sale but with the corona virus not much is happening. I will be moving the arcs into the big loft and putting the for sale fantails into the smaller one. I'm keeping Kiwi and Ruby.

CCUK

Do you suspect the arc eggs were thin/weak shells???
I don't think they were much different from the racers. They are smaller. One thing I have noticed is they don't seem interested in the grit. I may put a little zolcal d calcium supplement in the water for a few days. I've never had this with any of the others.

Qwerty...its such a mystery. I keep wondering what happened. Just so glad you got one back.
Thanks I'm glad as well :) It's absolutely a mystery, this is actually the one that was missing over the summer for a day or two and came back covered in motor oil or something. If this bird could talk he'd have a lot of stories to tell.

I was a bit skeptical of this at first because he's tame but pretty standoffish but today he was dragging his tail at me and landing on my shoulder so maybe his loneliness is making him more bold. Regardless he seems none worse for wear and I'll be happy to get him a female.

Oh wow....didn't realize this was "oil bird". That was weird too! Sure wish he could talk. He's lived an interesting life. You know, turkeys have "quick release " tail feathers. If something grabs them, they just let loose. Are pigeons like that??
That makes a lot of sense.
