Pigeon Talk

Did I ever mention that the feral female pigeon came back? The hen of Thing 1 & 2, my pigeons. Well she did....and now all I’ve been seeing is pigeons lately! I’ve seen at one point 5 pigeons in total on the roof of the horse shed.
The OG feral female, we shall name her Cat. Well Cat got another mate and they seem to have had a baby. So that’s 3 of them, okay sweet. There’s no way they had 3 babies as the other two have better flying abilities than the smaller more juvenile seeming pigeon.

That being said, I recall seeing a pigeon pair flying around on nice days in the mornings I had off. I saw the 5 in the morning on a calm but chilly day so I’m unsure if they are all living in the horse shed.. Why all of a sudden am I just surrounded by pigeons🤦‍♀️

I typed the above out while at work today. When I got home I did my usual chores and went to go see if the one bird was still on the nest from the other night. Well, when I looked at where the nest is it looks like something has gone through there aggressively. The nesting material was vertical and thrown about the area, looked as if a few boards had been moved around from what they were.. I noticed what looks to be raccoon feces in this one spot that I’m sure was not there previously. Maybe the large raccoon from my first pigeon rescuing is back. I DID see a light grey pair fly onto the shed then take off west into the distance, I do hope it didn’t get any of the other birds if that’s what it is..

:frow Welcome!

One thing I’ll add to what others have said... there are lots of super knowledgeable (and helpful beyond belief!) folks on this thread. We also have a wonderful way of sharing different ideas, and what works for some, doesn’t work for others. And everyone respects everyone else’s opinions more than I have seen anywhere on the internet! (Think of some FB groups that want you to do everything “their way”!)
I think some things are more general with chickens, ducks, etc. But pigeons are so unique with many more options. Figure out what you’d prefer to do, and ask! This group will be great at letting you know if anything is bad or harmful. The negative things to avoid are much easier than telling the things that should be done, because there are so many possibilities with pigeons!

I hope this makes sense. :gig
and @SoftSilkie , WVduckchick is our founder! :)

because now you notice! I didn't pay any attention to pigeons under bridges till I wanted them, but now I look under every bridge we pass!

There was not this many pigeons here the year before this though 😂
I will admit I AM seeing them around more often, just in your typical places... my property was not a typical place until the first pair showed up and now she’s (Cat) gone off and brought more pigeons to the area with her lol

Thank you!

So... my pigeons have had a nest for around three weeks now, and still no eggs. They’re sitting in it, and they’re currently being very noisy. My pigeons barely ever make sounds. There’s some days when they sit on the nest all day, and some where they barely sit at all. I’m trying to figure out what’s going on here??

Is it just one of them in the nest or are they both taking turns?
If its the former I'd say you may have a same sex pair.

I also just thought of something. The day after I got my missing cockbird he was in my shoulder while I was in the aviary and he tried to mate with the back of my neck so I tossed him off. I chalked it up to just loneliness but is it possible he thinks I'm his mate instead and that's why he's not being receptive to the new hen?
