Pigeon Talk

gemischt_smilie_0186.gif @Fields Mountain Farm @WVduckchick!

I got a call today from a friend who had an injured pigeon and asked if I could help. So of course I went to see. Turns out it was a wood pigeon maybe 3-4 weeks old. It was in a bad way. It looked like it had been blown out of its nest and hit every branch on the way down. It wouldn't drink and was curling its head around. I knew it was dying. It also had a large tick on the side of its face. It died and it was so sad to see. I was wondering if ticks can pass any transcomunicable diseases to pigeons? I've never seen one on a bird before but the fields around them had sheep in so they will be prevalent.

X2:(

@Chickencountryuk , There are any number of tick borne diseases here in the states, and I would assume also in the UK. Ticks must actually bite you and generally remain in place for a period of time to transmit disease.
It was quite a big tick. We do get lymes disease here. I'm sad for the poor thing but I wouldn't want to introduce any nasties to my loft either.

Wonder if wood pigeons can carry PMV... I believe that is the one that has the neck twisting?

Oh c**p. That sounds like it. I did wash my hands after I handled it. It had the watery feaces and the neck twisting. I've cleaned my loft today but I'm going to give it a disinfect tomorrow with jeyes. I hope that I haven't introduced anything.
