This is a worry for you. FMF gave some good advice. I would end up getting a little more involved than I probably should but I've only assisted chicken eggs from an incubator. I'd try to have as little intervention as possible with this, as the parent is sat on it. I'm not sure if they would reject a squab but...idk. Seems a little bit catch 22. Jusk keep an eye on it and see how it progresses. They don't normally take that long to hatch.Well bad news, the squab looks malpositioned so i picked an opening in the shell and drop a few drops of warm water down in it so it can reposition and hopefully zip open. I really want this one to make it because i only have 2 portueguese now.
Did anybody else just get crashed out of byc?

I dont think th parents will reject it, they are pretty used to me touching them and the eggs. I am going to go check on it now. Thanks yall!
I have suggested using retired campers to make chicken coops many times in past postings. I also suggested using Garden sheds for same re-purpose use as well. When you are ready to make the move, take some pix of inside and we can make suggestions then. Some of my views differ from other peeps here, and I will explain them.Ideas.. please give me any and all imput you have!
Long story short.. as soon as ds3's bungalow is finished, hopefully in the next 2 wks. Dd3 will be moving into his camper from hers so we can move hers out and start on her bungalow in spring. Its an old camper and dh was gonna scrap it.. but, Im thinkin ,hmm loft?? Its a 20ft.. what say you all?![]()
No matter what humans try, mice seem to always win. I would mice proof the outside, and NOT REMOVE THE INSULATION. In your area,,,,, the insulation would be very beneficial during summer to keep the loft from becoming a metal skinned sauna. JMO.Is it a campervan or a caravan? A caravan could be modified. But I'd be a bit worried about the wall insulation becoming home to mice and such. It could be workable though.
Caravan .. ds3 has had to set a mouse trap or two so they do get in occasionally ..
You would remove most of the interior, but you can also utilize some of the cabinets and drawers to hold feed and supplies inside out of weather. You can also just use a portion of camper as loft and rest for your alternate needs.Wonder if we gutted the whole thing and go from there?![]()
I may sound heartless, but caveman has the biggestNot in pigeons much. But have with quail. Id be nerveus taking it in since its altricial and requires hand feeding and such. I think im going to see how it does on its own with no more assistance. Its a newer pair so i dought they will know how to help the egg much. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding whether i should help the egg or not?
Water isnt really the best idea.. do you have any coconut oil? Water evaporates too fast and dries put the membrane more.Update. Its still in the wrong position to hatch. It keeps drying out so i keep dropping it with warm water to keep it from drying out. My plan is to let try for another 1 1/2 hour so it can build up strength and if it hasnt improved any i will help it out quite a bit. How does that sound? I want to let it get some strength trying so it isnt to weak. It is trying a little bit by moving it beak to try to reack the shell. I wish i could do photos! And if i end up helping it out and the parents dont take it back what should i feed? I dont have kaytee extract although i could moisten up some game bird breeder and flight conditiner with 18% protein, would that work? Im confident they will since it will be there only squab this hatch.
Have you got any coconut oil? That seems to be the best to stop the shell drying. I think that ground up gamebird would be OK. @biophiliac is well versed with hand feeding!Update.
