Pigeon Talk

The first time I put my hand under the mum on nest I got real worried. She was growling, slapping with her wings and biting! Such a sweet thing really!! This is a never before seen picture, my first attempt at a photo of babies. I got charged and dropped my phone!!! :lau
I was a nervous wreck the next couple of times I went near them!! View attachment 1606162

:lau excellent pic!
I actually deleted a very similar shot. So glad I'm not alone!

Next time I went out, I added a waterer inside with her, and a small bowl of budgie feed. Smaller seeds and pellets, although they have been bringing stuff inside, so it probably wasn't necessary. She didn't flinch when I sat the waterer in place, but later I moved the feed bowl and she hopped off the nest! So I quickly left it, and backed away. Looking thru the window, she went straight back to the babies.

By the time I left my house, the male had taken over duties. I still think that its so cool for the dad to share the duties. Gives mom a break.
She was out hanging with the rollers.

Don't babies increase your visits to the loft? I was out there all the time looking in on them! They grow sooo darn fast.

Oh gosh yes, I went out a few times after dark last night!

And I always get my phone ready with the camera, just in case they give me a shot! :D

@WVduckchick do not worry about getting good shots of them, give the parents a few days and they will be getting off more often. Do you leave food in all the time? If not feeding time is when i might move the parent off so i can check for canker and get a good look!

How often do you guys check on your birds? I typically go out 5-6 times a day.

I start work early and it's still pitch black and its pitch black when I finish. I have my DW or DS1 put there feed in first light. I check them and clean them in the evening when I get home. I check them several times at the weekend and they have an hour or so flying time. Can't wait till summer when it's light later and I can do more.
