Pigeon Talk

Anyone here active with a pigeon racing club? We have one nearby and I was going to check in with them this weekend. Really curious how all that works.
I believe @LamarshFish knows something about club racing. I have only a social membership in the local club so I can get bands.
I think they should be helpful to new flyers. Can you do a video about your visit?

@theVulture I saw your pigeon pics on the Scavenger hunt thread. Pretty! Do you have very many? What breeds?
I didnt expect to end up here tbh but im glad i did :). I always wanted to have king pigeons. Big and cuddly. But hard to find. So i started with lots of local breeds such as mardin turkish tumbler , some breed called trakya (a region in turkey) pigeon and carriers.
But after finding kings i sold most of my ofter breed birds since i have small space and kings picks on smaller pairs. I have two pair of kings. One male turkish tumbler that is unable to fly so someone gave to me and his carrier × tumbler mix son. A small but happy group :)

Will do. I'm curious about bands that are tied to a searchable database I got some info from ARPU (pigeon.org) and their bands can be searched but I think you have to be part of a club. Not exactly sure yet. I actually made a video about the info they sent me. I will also make one about the club visit.

Lastly, Just found some fence panels on craigslist that look awesome. I think I can use them as walls for a new loft and a friend has full plywood pieces I can have. Things are looking good for the new loft build.

Yes, my bands are ARPU, they begin AU, then the year, then the 3 letter code for the club, then the individual number for each bird. I think the way it works is ARPU keeps track of which numbers are issued to each club. Each club keeps track of which numbers go to each member. For lost birds found, ARPU contacts the club, who contacts the owner.

spoke too soon. the panels were already taken. Oh well, going to keep on the look out.

Here is my video on the ARPU. Looks cool.
Good video again! Correct that local clubs dont't have much of a web presence.:( I definitely want that ARPU booklet! :D

As to racing, if I ever do - one loft races would probably be more practical for me.

I think I would like to try a one loft race. I'm curious what those types of fees look like. I'm also going to try and write down the band numbers from my pigeons. I wonder if I can update the ownership of those birds with the club they came from. I'll have to find out. I'm asking myself new questions everyday!!!
