Pigeon Talk

Hmmm, did you post some pics? Let the others on the group chime in and prove her wrong. :D

(that's mean of me, isn't it?)

Oh, she private messaged me. I did post pictures in another group and that's where the other guy confirmed for me it was a cock. I guess I could post a picture in the frillback group too and get more opinions, but this bird is a cock and I will send her the DNA results if I have to, lol. I had already bought the test so I may as well send the feathers in.

A bit of snow today.

Yes. You should show her the test. Unless you want to save it for when you get new ones. Good luck!

Pretty birds qwerty3159!

Well, the plot thickens. The seller tells me that the silver is supposedly from a pairing of an almond hen and a pied cock. Almond is a sex linked gene, and all cocks from an almond hen should be almond, or that's what I've read. But this bird also isn't banded, so I'm thinking it's possible she mixed it up with another bird.

Well I just tried feeling down the keelbone towards the back end of the pigeon regarding sexing. I can definately feel the difference between a hen and a cock. Squeak and papa2 were not impressed but I'm sure that I can now feel the difference for sure. :yaThe place that I felt was almost as far back as there feet when I'm holding them. I will check the rest at the weekend.
Sure is a lot easier than turning them upside down, like sexing dogs, cats, people:oops:.
The person at the Live Poultry establishment must have got the experience from processing those pigeons. There you go ,,,, buy your chicken, pigeon, guinea, duck or whatever else. In short time,,,,, you are walking out the door with fresh meat in a plastic bag.
He seen plenty of skinned birds. Most likely noticed the difference during those times.:idunno

I've got a line on some hens from an experienced breeder recommended to me by the guy who told me my birds were cocks. Only downside is the breeder is in CA and this is going to cost me a fortune in shipping, probably. Also I really don't like getting birds from CA right now what with the Newcastle outbreak, but I guess as long as he's outside the quarantine area it should be safe.

Edit: I just checked, he's up by Sacramento, and all the cases have been in the south of the state, so probably fine.
I live right by Sacramento. If you need anything let me know.
