Pigeon Talk

I think once Rosie gets back to her Ideal weight, she will eat less, and poo less. Now she is eating and gaining.
As per you last message,,,,,, maybe you have Pete Rose, and not Rosie:idunno
Yep, I think you nailed it!

"She" just drove Olive to the nest with the expected aggression, biting her on the neck and is now standing over her preening her head all over, Olive seems to be happy with it whatever Rosie is and is making her love noises, I have probably been replaced in either case.

And I don't think I can consider separating them anymore.
I'm glad Rosie's gender isn't a deal breaker for you!:)

@Serin

This looks like the Ramsey Loft set up where she seems to have a whole indoor room with sand on the floor for her birds?

master... :rolleyes: ha!:p

I have an answer for FMF, but ill let her share...:)

Serin, can you vent sex rosie? 'she's sounds like a male, but it would be nice to confirm.

:oops: Just remembered this...
@Serin - Check for blue/black flecking in Rosie's light feathers. If you find it that confirms male gender. And that he is split for blue. So 50% of offspring of each color.

Hm I don't see any flecking, and @backyard pigeons I haven't tried, sounds a bit invasive for me...

Rosie is definitely showing a wide range of behavioral flexibility but this morning she crouched for Olive and wanted to be mounted herself, which leads me to suspect, unless I get more definite male behavior like feeding her or actual mating, that she is a hen that is somewhat adopting the male role in an environment without any males, something a lot of birds will do.

It doesn't matter much what she is really as long as they get along. This morning I noticed she hadn't left any messes on the ledges - she seems to be aiming for the newspapers like Olive, which if that continues keeps things MUCH tidier. When I opened the cage up, Rosie was able to cross the front room and gain some height to land on top of the door for the first time. Now that she flies, she doesn't go the floor, possibly because she may not be strong enough yet to get back to a high spot if she does.

Oh and they both sort of slept in the same bed nest last night. Olive hogged it but Rosie laid like... halfway onto it and sort of on top of Olive.

Yes it's from her, her loft is inside but not in a house, it's a climate controlled out building I think. She has a lot of crossbred birds because she is breeding only for temperament, so I figured I'd have the best chance of finding an equivalent cross on her page since most other breeders would not consider mixing the lines.
