Seems to be working!
They haven’t gone down to the branches I hung yet, but they are on the other end. They have gone out and flown, pecked around on the ground for a while, and head back in. Then out again.

I came across something in a pigeon group on facebook that might interest those of you with free flying birds. It has been reported that hawks will avoid grabbing pigeons if their tail feathers are painted with two light colored bars around a black bar. Whether this is because it resembles the striped tail feathers of another raptor or if it resembles a giant eyeball I'm unsure, but it reportedly prevents attacks almost completely and may be beneficial to do on new squeakers before they become skilled flyers in areas with high predator pressures.

Something oil based or it will wash off in the water, just dont get it on the bird's body. A non-toxic spray paint like Rustoleum (sprayed in a cup and then brushed on) is what I'd use as it dries fastest.
