They all look like this from behind! :lau

I've asked the guy to send me some pictures but as of yet he hasn't :(

With Olive being so back and forth like this I am going to have to consider again the option of placing Rowan with another home, ideally with a different female pigeon that is not so bonded to a person like this. Olive is clearly torn between the instinct to procreate and to maintain the established bond she had to me. Now that the honeymoon is over between them and the eggs are here she seems to have no use for the poor guy again.

I do think it will be more peaceful for all involved in this bird "love triangle" if one "husband" or the other were out of the picture. If she were consistently bonded to the male and had lost all interest in me I would consider finding both a new home in a loft where they can live a normal pigeon life. But since she has recently - and very strongly - shifted her affections back toward me as she was as a single bird I'd just as soon adopt out the male and go back to our old situation, which while different did seem to suit her well. Olive is an unusual pigeon who grew up in an unconventional setting and she is now showing some behavioral quirks related to that. As long as she is living indoors it will be impossible to totally leave her alone as she can always see me around and this seems to be a problem in her maintaining a healthy pigeon relationship. I don't know how old she was when I bought her, but she acts like she maybe imprinted to some extent on people as a result of being a single pet for so long.

I should probably switch the eggs with fakes regardless... I can't count on her letting Rowan help raise the chicks as it currently stands, though I guess if necessary I could assist feeding...
Your analysis makes sense. Your special bond with Olive is worth preserving. And Rowan deserves a hen loyal to him.:)

Serin....place Rowan. You were happiest when it was just you & Olive.
Exactly! :)

It is done. I placed an ad online for a pigeon needing a pet home Friday, and within a few hours I got a response from a woman who was looking for a pet pigeon. We chatted back and forth for a while, and she answered all the questions right. She and her two children came by to meet Rowan, and they thought he was beautiful. She says that she has several other smaller rescued birds that she has earned the trust of, and was not put off by him being wary of handling, rather that she would enjoy getting him to trust her. Rowan went home with his new family and I have been getting updates. He's got a little bed to sleep in there too, and she says he uses it. She intends to get him a companion soon. He will have a similar life to that in our home as an indoor pet. I am happy with this outcome; because of @Ninjasquirrel taking him in and getting him to me to recover, he now has a second chance, and a happy forever home.

Olive... doesn't seem to miss him at all, and there has been no adjustment period. She was on my shoulder within ten minutes of them leaving and it is like nothing has ever been any different and her return to her former state of affection with people was instant and complete. I replaced her eggs with fakes Thursday night, and she periodically sat on them until this morning, when she lost interest. She never laid eggs for me, and I don't know if she will continue now, or if without Rowan's influence she won't get broody. I can't know what she is thinking but she seems happier, and more free, now. She is flying and moving around the whole house again and not just lingering in the cage. She took a bath in the sink, played with the keys on my computer and typed a document of pigeon scratch in Microsoft Word, and she met the little parrot for the first time and insisted on trying some of his formula.

I am happier with only her - and goodness is she so much tidier! - and her behavior suggests that she is still reasonably fulfilled with this life. With Rowan, all of her personality flickered away and it was as if she was completely overwhelmed by reproductive instinct that nothing else mattered, and then she was confused about who was supposed to be her mate. But it seems to dissolve the instant she was not around him. There is no drama, and she is again a joy to have.

On another tangent, I can't believe the thread has been quiet for two whole days! That's the longest I've seen. How are everyone else's birds???

Thank you for finding him a loving home Serin. I know this has been difficult for you but he might not have made it in my care because of lack of knowledge. The fact that you raised him back up to a healthy weight and got him to fly again is more than I could ask for. It sucks that it didn't work out but hopefully he is happy in his new home.:highfive:

good job serin! You will be happier now, along with Olive.

I know, this thread has been so quite! My birds are doing good, thanks for asking! :)
