Pigeon Talk

Okay thanks that makes sense. Not sure how I didn't notice and worry about it sooner lol

@biophiliac your pigeons have access to a pretty large aviary right? Do you find it beneficial to be able to shut them in the loft without access to the aviary for you to go in there and do things?
I didn't really plan how I wanted to attach my loft to the aviary very well and I'm not sure if I should just leave it open for them to go in and out or make it so I can shut them all into the loft itself.

I do have a way to close off the loft from the aviary, for a couple of reasons that I might want to confine the birds to the loft only...
1. If I want to catch a particular bird who is skittish or won't come for peanuts , lol, it's easier to catch them in a 4x6 loft than in the 4x10aviary.
2. The aviary is not as predator proof as the loft when closed.
3. Sometimes I use the aviary to let fledglings learn to fly. I'll exclude the adults for a few hours to let the babies explore safely.

Otherwise I like to hang with them in the aviary'...the dust is not a problem like inside the loft. They come around looking for peanuts or sometimes I just sit with them. I do not think you need to exclude them to get done whatever unless you are worried about them escaping the open door as you go in and out. Mine never seem to try that.

Hello all!
Not much going on with my pigeons at the moment. Haven’t even seen any new mating going on. And no new eggs!
They do seem to enjoy their time out in the duck pen, but usually head back to their regular space within an hour or so.

Happy to hear that Rowan found a nice new home and Olive adjusted easily. Good job Serin.

I seems that the so called 'breeder' that I ordered the arcs from doesn't have any. In fact he never had any and was trying to flip some birds on me. I phoned the courier he said he was going to use and he filled me in on his tactics. Long story short he is a dealer. I have been refunded and I have spoke to the NPA and got some contacts for REPUTABLE breeders. I had today off work in anticipation for there arrival, since nothing was ever going to arrive I have managed to finish the loft! All apart from the nest box fronts. I'm going to move the others over this weekend. I'm impressed with the trap and hatch. It works really well. I just hope the pigeons use it!

That sucks but it's very common when buying birds from long distance sellers.
Yeah. I'm pretty angry about it but I'm glad I got my money back. I didn't kick up a fuss with him about it as the courier said if I did I probably wouldn't have heard from him again. The contact I have from the NPA is a guy who I've heard of and seen his birds. He is an honest reputable breeder.
