@ChickenTenderKesha that depends on your chickens and if theyd be safe when your pigeons land in a shared space, as a chicken can easily kill a pigeon if it so wished. Along whith pass on diseases the pigeons could be susceptible to.
Okay so no shared runAs to the shared run I would say if it's large enough, like maybe 15ft x 30ft min, with bird netting protection over the top then the risk is much lower. If it's small like 6 x 10 then there's a much higher risk of aggression. Of course providing the right perches and landing zones for your pigeons to perch safely out of reach of the chickens is essential.
There are many predators in my area but the pressure on my flock is thankfully low. Loft is 3ft outside my window and about 5 steps from the front door! The wire top I added was designed to foil the hawks and is not secure against a determined raccoon but the birds go into the loft a night which is secure when closed off from the aviary.
Agree. If cornered by chickens the pigeon can be killed. Very risky.
Not too worried, Imo.on’t know how worried I should be about shared diseases
Agree.@ChickenTenderKesha that could work as long as chickens can't make physical contact whith your birds. My chicks free range and some times will follow me out to the loft and pace up and down the chainlink trying to find a way in. As long as you don't think your chickens are carrying anything(disease, lice, fleas etc) and both areas are kept clean to prevent illness, you should be fine in my opinion.
The 3 aren’t my only chickens. They are probably some of the nicest/easiest to please though.. We have Ori the cockerel who has a hard time breathing, CB my crooked beak pullet, and finally the newest addition to the fun house is Pearl who struggles on the regular to see and I don’t think it’s just her crest either. I think having them share the total space with a divider in place would be fine. I doubt either of those 3 would get so bothered by the pigeons being right there anyways after they got used to the initial shock of seeing them.@ChickenTenderKesha that could work as long as chickens can't make physical contact whith your birds.
