Pigeon Talk

Xs2! Im so glad you came down this road Mr Serin! I totally agree that 90% of livestock birds are much better pets than 90% of the wild things people try to keep :barnie all these people with these screaming parrots could each have a pair of chicken hens (or quail hens like your case without a backyard) and get healthy eggs for like 1/10th of the cost of the parrot that theyre bored and annoyed with inside of a month or two.

Yeah! I have Nemo the Quaker parrot who I rescued and he is very unpredictable and can bite like a shark. He has his little parakeet friend so I mostly leave him alone... Talk to him but don't carry him around and he only rarely wants to be touched. He is disabled so has to be in captivity but I would not have bought one. Domesticated birds are just nicer. They've been bred to be. Parrots are wild animals. They're nice for the specialist owner but dont fit into most peoples lives.

I want another coturnix eventually. And I think it will be another big one like her. I wanted the smaller ones but she's not jumpy at all so I think she'll do very well in the big parakeet cage as I don't think she can fly enough to hit her head in it. So far she is not afraid of anything. She even went nose to nose with the cat through the little cage she's in for now.

Nemo's two moods... Sweet baby...which I see less of every day as he matures... And angry biting blur.

The one and a half winged bird, right? I remember your rescuing him. Im glad you have him too otherwise he wouldve surely died out there.

Dont let Cleo fool you i am positive when you see her flush the first time youll understand why.

She doesn't fly. When she jumps off something she flutters but gains no height.
I will follow the progress on your Cleo. If I could keep them in my run with my chickens during warm season, I may consider getting a couple hens. My run is not "sealed " on top. There are gaps where they would be able to fly out.:(

Sorry Mr Rich but i dont think that would work. Any ole sizable bunny hutch is good though!

Keeping one or two in a cage defeats my purpose of keeping free-range,:hit like the chickens. I looked into quail, long ago, and knew they would fly away. Serin's does not seem to want to fly. :idunno If a certain breed would stay on the ground, then I would have it.

:hugs Most of them will Mostly stay on the ground... but the first time they were startled you would loose em. However it could be a really Big cage... a flight pen if you will. Or just in your greenhouse :D

Unfortunately I don't have a green house, or area for Large flight aviary.:hit
Another thought that just crossed my mind is in my Avatar.. I know they leave the chickens alone,,,, but would eat my pigeons if given an opportunity. Quail might have a similar odor:idunno:old
