Pigeon Talk

Alright... I accidentally did something today. @WVduckchick I got sats! I didn't take any pics, but will soon. I have been using a white homer as a dropper. I need a dropper because of the giant pine trees right by the loft. the birds sit in the tops, and even if they are very hungry, they still need a little encouragment. It is weird how well the white homer worked, so I thought I need to get some droppers. I Think I got a decent deal. $30 for a proven pair.

I now have, sats, rollers, homers, and Portuguese tumblers. I am getting rid of the rollers though. Just waiting for the loft to be built by the future owner. I don't plan on keeping more than 6 or so sats.

Yay for Sats :love
Lost one of my new squabs. Trip’s smaller baby. I had been watching to make sure it was getting fed, but I guess I missed checking one day and it was barely breathing. Brought it inside, but it passed away shortly afterward.
But the good news is the other 4 are doing fabulous.

Yes you're right, just 5 :)
Its interesting you said that about the dropper because I have the same problem where even if they're pretty hungry they'll sit on the roof for a long time and not come down. You'll have to update us with how well it works for you because I'm thinking of getting a fantail or something to use.
I haven't used a fancy bird yet, and won't be until they breed a round of youngins because I just have two sats. If I lose one, I lose a pair. But that being said, I have used a homer on eggs, so that it would go right back in. I'm not joking, it worked so good. It looked like the birds just got shot out of the trees. They dropped like a rock to join it.

I am sorry. I'm glad the other 4 are doing good.

Pictures! The "barless" has slight bars right on top. I missed that until today. They were in trap training today.

Thanks so much for all your helpful replys. Sadly the Squabs died last night. It was cold, and the mother must have gotten off, as she was on them earlier that night. thanks. I will know for next time. No, they aren't my whites. the whites are doing good.
yes, the popcorn is unpopped. They do not get whole corn, except on exceptionally cold days, like today.
thanks for your reply. I think this is what it must be. I will know for next time. The squabs were just at 2 weeks old.
Condolences.

I thought I had a barless once, but turned out to have slight bars too. I'm surprised how young those guys are for trap training ... are you sure they are safe?

Yeah. I was right there with them. And they were just in the board. From what I have heard by the racer who has really helped me, he puts his speakers out starting at 2 1\2 weeks old. He watches them, and then puts them back in. I did the same. They were out for about 10 minutes. How much longer do you think I should wait? Until they can fly?

The squekies can enjoy the scenery and fresh air. :thumbsup
You do need to be there the whole time, since you don't want them falling off outward, or going thru bobs and falling inside.

I think that's very interesting what that flyer does! It would be fine if you are with them. I'm so overprotective I don't even like to see them out of the nest box at that age! Haha. Cute little guys.:love

yeah. I actually added a flat platform inside by the trap, so they just walk thru. The barless actually decided to trap, and I quickly brought him right back to where he was.

yeah, I guess it's not normal... Haha. Yeah, I understand. Your overprotectiveness has raised a good, healthy flock though! :highfive:
