Pigeon Talk

okay. and if your regular mix is say,,, around fourteen percent protein, I would go with the chicken layer pellets, but bump them up to 30% of the feed for molting season. So unless your mix is abnormally low in protein, like 10%, I would do the layer pellets. Does this make sense? My post can be somewhat hard to understand sometimes I feel!
Makes no sense. Pigeons are so interesting but no one seems to want to study them.
who would want to study flying rats? no one realizes what pigeons are capable of. 9\10 people don't know that homing pigeons are real. The American Racing Pigeon Union once put an add in the Field and Stream magizine, and they got TONS of calls of people wanting to get started, and out of that, several hundred new members in the ARPU. so people would go for it if given the opportunity!

Okay, flying rats would be super cool! Imagine a fat mouse soaring in the air. ;)

The feed that I am feeding now is 12% protein and I have been mixing in some pellets to bump up the protein as well as get them used to the future mix I was planning on making. I found an article online that suggested if I did 25% corn, 25%wheat, 20% millet, 20% layer pellets and 10% black oil sunflower seeds then the protein level should be between 14-16% which is where i wanted it, while cutting my feed cost in half. But I’m not 100% sure on this, I only know from the articles I have read and tried to research.

Okay. I'm only recommending adding in more pellets then usual for about a two month period until they are done with their molt. How much is millet in your area? I tried to add some millet in my mix, and it was $60!!! for fifty pounds! Yikes.

Yes, my birds are molting right now so I figured it would be beneficial. And I called my feed store and they had it for $25 for 50lbs, I finally found roasted soybeans but it was like $70 for 50lbs so I said the heck with them and decide to go with layer pellets or the all flock

Saw a special on hummingbirds. While interesting they just buzz around eating. Can you imagine a special on pigeons? The homing instinct, the war service the diversity. The theives! Is there amy bird more accomplished?
I think I have seen videos on all three of those pigeon topics on YT. I'll try to find some links for you if I can find them again. In the meantime I'll link you to some interesting studies on pigeons from a fav website, Sciencedaily.
