Pigeon Talk

I just find it crazy how things turned out.
I was thinking on buying a pigeon as well, looking at all these fancy breeds at £65-£200 for sale online. Though didn’t think I had the time for them, this being the day before I met him.

Then there he was, all fluffed up and lost looking outside a shop, this random little street mutt has given me more joy than a fancy bred pair probably could have. :love I picked this random bird off the street and he has cemented himself into my heart already with his personality.

Here's the new feral!

Pretty little thing, but didn't want to pose for pictures. I will probably be calling it Caernarvon, which is the name of the street it was found on.

Poor baby! Happy that Caernarvon is gonna live a happy life in a flock though, even with their wing injured though.

And Caernarvon is a very pretty bird with the T-checkering!

Squabble is very young, so you cannot tell the sex yet. I would only keep one as a companion bird, they will bond to you and be very loyal.
Thought Squabble would have been too young but didn’t see any harm in asking 😄 Squabble is already bonding well with me, it is surprising how quickly they accept being back in a domesticated setting!
I have looked after baby wild birds in the past who fell out a nest at much younger ages and they put up far more protest than Squabble had, and kept a rather aloof nature with mainly wanting food.

Heck, it has taken me four years for my diamond dove, Lulu, to even consider eating out of my hand and he still hates being touched! He is a pretty “look but don’t touch bird.” 😆
Meanwhile Squabble just wanted instant cuddles and head scritches as if he had always been a pet bird, despite only being plucked off the street four days ago now. You can definitely see the 5,000 years of domestication in their behaviour, Squabble is practically a lost puppy.

Also, my bedroom is practically his enclosure. 😆
There is a cage top that I put over him at night or when going out, but for the most part he is a free range bird. This is his little nest that I made him.

I think soon enough he’ll be so well trained (I have essentially been crate training him like a puppy, now I think of it) that he probably won’t really need a cage.
