They seem to be very fussy about their nests and dislike any interference/change. I have found ducks to be the same way.
She isn’t quite so violent now.That was probably her first hatch. I just wanted her to know I wasn’t going to hurt them. And I may have just been trying to video that for reference.
I usually band legs around day 10. By then, they are much more calm too.
My latest failed experiment:
I discovered a nest on the ground the other day, up under the coop. I decided to try to give her a bowl, so I added one of those nesting pads to the bottom, a couple leaves, with some nearby, moved the eggs into it, and put the bowl back on the ground where she had the eggs. She inspected it for a while, I even saw her get on the edge of the bowl. But apparently she didn’t like it and never sat on the eggs again. I finally removed the bowl and the eggs hadn’t developed anyway, so either I was too quick, or they just weren’t fertile. I’m not sure how long she had been under there.
