My 8 year old daughter is interested in learning more about pigeons. Do you have any books you would recommend for her to learn more about keeping pigeons?

Thanks for the NPA tip, @backyard pigeons! I see the national show is in Louisville in January. We live in Indy, so that’s a reasonable trip. I’ll get her a jr membership and hopefully be at the show.

Great! I'll be there at the show. I will be showing Portuguese tumblers. Probably two. ports would be a great starter breed! I don't have any extra, but there may be some for sale at a silent auction at the show. Watch out, I may outbid you.

I'm actually a junior member. It is a great place, that welcomes juniors. Expect a lot of birds to be offered to you and your daughter, for free! They love to get juniors started!

how exciting! We can help you all you need to, as far as care: housing, feed, breeding, getting started etc.

I can't think of a good read for your daughter, with her being 8. Most pigeon care books are very in-depth. But, there is one old book: Enjoy your pigeons,

It may be to much, but it's shorter than most pigeon books. What if you got her signed up for the NPA? That is the National Pigeon Association. It's like $5-$10 for a junior, and it includes 4 full color magazines a year, with lots of photos! NPA

If you do get the NPA, ask for them to send the latest issue. It came out two weeks or so ago. The Secretary likely will. He is a very nice gentleman, who cares a lot about getting juniors started.

EDT: it's fictional, by the way. But it's informative, and it was a pretty good read when I was that age.
