Pigeons breeding?

I had laying pair that produced eggs every 3 months on the floor. I had 'perfect' nest size boxes and a bowl in it, but they didn't go for it. Their favorite spot was a bale of shavings, but I keep moving them off that, as I needed to access it.

I finally stuck a cooking caserole dish in one of the boxes and all of a sudden, that's where they nest. 3 new clutches raised.

My best pair of homers started nesting on the floor also. It all started when I cleaned their nesting compartment.
The refused to except the nest bowl that I forced into their compartment. Since that episode both my best homers nest on the floor. He is the dominant ♂ in the loft and can nest wherever he chooses.

They will not use nest bowls or breeding compartments since that episode. I am now fine with their decision. I clean their nest area when the young are mobile and can chase their parents for feedings (they usually have a second nest on the floor by then). Maybe I need a casserole dish.
