Is it okay to give my pigeons survey vitamins and electrolytes. Or sav a chick probiotics? I was just wondering.

I give my pigeons a vitamin with electrolytes from AgriLibs. The package has all kinds of animals on it along with chickens.
I mix it in their water about 3 times a month. If any of my birds look stressed, like in heat or cold, I give it more often.
It seems to work wonders.

Savachick is good. There are alot of different home brews and remedies for pigeons. It comes from their racing and flying heritage. But I suspect most of it is overkill. Unless you have a problem. When my dad and I used to race, we didn't use much. An occasional anti coccidiosis stat and wormer.... pigeons are very hardy. Do you fly your birds?

I gave up on racing years ago. The time and the price of gas was eating me up!
I did do a release at a funeral last year and it went really well.
Now, I just let my flock fly twice a day. They're so smart and beautiful to see fly.
It's a shame that people give pigeons a "bad rap."

I don't think that vitamins and electrolytes are needed... except for sick birds... or people who are racing them and they are physically drained.

I have kept fancy pigeons for 14 years and never used vitamins or electrolytes. I don't race them.. but I let them fly around the property for a few hours each afternoon.

They don't even get grit. They pick up their own grit and minerals when out and about in the garden.

They just feed on parakeet (cockatiel) seed mix and chicken pellets. Plus clean water every day... nothing added to it.

They are all very healthy and breed like crazy.. in fact they are mostly overweight and I am cutting down on their feeding.

They get peanuts as treats sometimes.

I like to keep things simple!

Thank you all so much for the replies, sorry it's taken so long to respond back.

My mom has a ton of pigeons, even strays that come by everyday. I have been helping now with them as my mom needs care now. She still does her normal routine, which is just flying around the surrounding area.

I don't race them, would be cool to try though. My mom wants to get rid of some because she has quite a bit I just wanted to see if I can help out before she does, but its good to know they are hardy birds.

We both love birds, I also have two female mallards which I give the nutrients to so I was just wondering. One set of pigeons had there normal two babies and I don't know why but one of the others had pecked it to death. Could this be because there are too many or not enough food or nutrients.. Idk I want to just help as much as I can.

One of them is fine, we take it out at night and put it back in the morning to still be apart of the crowd. Nothing happens to the other one, it was just the one.

If a young bird gets out of the nest and encroaches on the territory of another pair some cockbirds will peck them to the point of death.

The converse of this is that I had Birmingham Rollers where the cocks would eat and then feed every young bird on the loft floor until no more were begging for food. My most aggressive birds were the homers.

If they are overcrowded then some cock birds will invade the nest boxes of other pairs to try to take them over... in in the process will try to kill any squabs in that nest.
