pine shavings for chicks

Mine started day one with pine shavings... It's been 3 weeks with no problems... Also have them on Starter feed...!
LOL.. it is all so worrisome isn't it... How we worry about our little chickies... It funny if you think of it... It's all about nature.. Nature seems to take of itself... I believe all of our llittle ones will be just fine... No Matter what....!

I put about 2" of pine bedding in my brooder and put paper towels on top of that for 4 days then just used the pine bedding. They had already started pulling some of it out from under the paper towels and playing with it anyway. Yesterday, at 10 days old, I put them outside in the 'big girl coop' with a 60 watt black light at night and pine bedding in the 'inside' coop area and they did fine. In fact they seemed to love it. The low temp was 77 for last night and our highs are about 90 deg. in the day. This may be too soon for some, but it felt right for me. We checked on them several times during the night and they were quite cozy and happy snuggled into the bedding.
