Well, today we've officially started on the duck coop! :D ...Okay, we didn't get too far, but digging that foundation really knocked me out. :th So here is the floor of the duck coop!

This is a view of what will be part of the duck yard:

The other part of the duck yard. The dimensions are roughly 15 by 35 feet:

This is a zoomed in part of the last picture. It's hard to see past that branch hanging down in the way, but this is where little Wibbles was buried. I plan on fencing this off and planting a white lilac here in remembrance of her. Hopefully in a year or two it'll be a nice, strong bush that the ducks can hang out under (without destroying it  ).

Here are the rough plans, if anyone wants a closer look. :) Click for a full view.

In theory, the ducks should arrive on October 18, which is the date of a show I'll be going to to look for them. If that doesn't work out, I suppose I'll try again with eggs next year. :fl. We'll see when we get there, I suppose!

And in other news, Kit-kit squatted for the first time today!! :weee

Yay! Kit-kit squatted! Nice duck coop! We are just starting on a larger coop! Pumpkin has been laying for awhile and both Pumpkin and Pepsi are squatting! I hope Pepsi starts laying soon! Oh and Pumpkin's first egg wasn't a first.......I found out that she had a secret nest with five eggs in it!
Also Pumpkin's eggs look fertile so I think that my rooster at the young age of 12 weeks is fertilizing them!

Haha, one of my barred Rocks did the same thing to me! I thought she had just started laying, but then I followed her into the woods the next day and found a nest with around a dozen eggs in it! :th Naughty girl!

And wow, that's quite young!! Gonna try hatching some? ;)

Maybe hatch one. I'll have to convince my family to let me. LOL I'm trading the rooster for a pullet sometime tomorrow and so I'll have to convince them FAST! I'll miss him. He is such a cutie!

Aw, too bad you can't keep him! Well, you should have a couple weeks to convince them at least. Hens can continue to lay fertile eggs for 3 weeks after a rooster has been removed, so that does give you some time!

Be sure to post pictures of your new girl! :D

I will post plenty of pic of my new girl! I'm going to try and get a EE because I want blue eggs. My rooster is a EE, but you know he turned out to be a rooster so I can't expect any blue eggs out of him! LOL I'm going to "roostersit" for a friend for three days(?). Their rooster is a RIR. He's going to be at our house so maybe I'll let him breed with my girls. I don't know..... The rooster has been living by himself for at least a weeks or two.
My friends flock was all killed and he was the only survivor.

Oh, yes, Easter eggers are great! I have 7, and I get a blue egg from 4 and a green egg from 2. The last is 9 years old, not laying anymore. More power to her, I say! :)

Just be careful about your friend's rooster, and about bringing in a new pullet. There are a lot of diseases out there that can leave birds as indefinite carriers, and they'll continue to pass on the disease to any birds they come into contact with. :/
