Pipd's Peeps 2014!

A few more of the day! The obligatory Elda cuddle! :love

Here's Kit and Louise perched together.

Louise. :love She's so pretty!

1000

Mabey Mabel looking up at the camera.

And I'll finish the night with Wibbles! :love After a rollercoaster day yesterday, where I was sure Wibbles was sick or dying because she was gasping for breath, I realized her nose was plugged with food and we had our first warm water bath, which fixed her right up! I say we because, well, she was very generous with her bath.

Here is the tail end of her bath yesterday. She was sleepy, so not as active at this point, but it was still kind of cute. :love Also, don't mind the chicken noises in the background--that was just some nest box drama as heard over the baby monitor in the coop.

Okay, well it's been a month now and today the youngsters have turned 4 months old, with the exception of Poppy and Violet both being a week older! It has been a long and difficult few weeks with classes starting up and all, but I set aside plenty of time for the girls so that I could get pictures!

I suppose I must start this post off with some somber news. My dear Wibbles has left us, unfortunately. What I suspect happened was when her nose was plugged (circa my last post), it caused a sinus infection. She got weaker and weaker, and in spite of everything I tried with her, I lost her. She was only 12 days old. :( So the plan is to look for an adult pair of call ducks at an upcoming show in October, and maybe next spring I will try my hand at hatching some of their eggs--with the hopes that without shipping stress I'll have at least more than one duckling hatch!

So on to happier thoughts! Here are the babies at 4 months old!!

Elda! I have no idea what she did to her beak, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her. She must have run into something.

1000

Kit-Kit! These two are nearly impossible to tell apart visually!

1000

Georgette--to my shock, she stood still for a picture! She always looks like she's glaring.

1000

Louise, so shiny! :love

1000

Mabel, big boss of the baby flock (well, if you don't count Tilde!). Look at those wattles!

1000

Poppy the uncooperative model!

1000

Modest but substantial Violet :love

1000

And big sister, Tilde, whose first birthday was at the beginning of the month!

1000

More pictures to come..!

Elly getting her cuddles! This is from a couple days ago, before she did whatever she did to her beak.

1000

And again from a couple days ago, here is Elly cuddling while Kit waits her turn. :love I had crouched to get a picture and they just ran right over!

1000

I can't get over how lovely Louise's eyes are! Here is her left...

1000

...And her right!

1000

Poppy, err... She thinks she stepped in something... (This is one prime example of how uncooperative she is for pictures! )

1000

A dark look from Georgie:

1000

...I think Violet wins for dark looks, though.

1000

And Poppy looks more wicked than dark.

Yeah, poor baby! I felt so bad that I didn't catch it in time! :/ But I try not to dwell on what-ifs, so at the moment I'm looking forward to my future duck flock. :) I have a corner of the area that will be the duck yard in mind for a nice garden in memory of little Wibs, though. We'll see how that works out.

Goodness, yes, I can't believe how fast that time is approaching! Someone on another thread had a Legbar the age Poppy is now go into lay already! I couldn't believe it!! I'm in no hurry for eggs from these babies, although it looks like Mabel may be the first to lay of this set with the wattles she's getting in already! Seems like it wasn't that long ago when she was a little ball of fluff wandering around the brooder!
