Pipd's Peeps!

Pics
Congrats on finishing the semester. I know you will be glad to have some free time.

I can't wait to see the pics of the babies and Frou Frou's flowers.

Just 20 more days wow that's getting close. Then you will have more little ones to take care of. I know you will love that.

Crash is laying without a problem now. That's great news. I wonder what she is going to think of the babies.

Take care and have a nice day.

Well, it took quite the effort over the past couple days, but I made it! All of my homework is turned in!! I just have finals on Wednesday now, and I'm free for the summer! :weee

Anyway, pictures, as promised! These babies are looking more and more like young adults! SIGH! Are they really 7 weeks old already..? I'm convinced more and more every day that Margie did a perfect 50-50 split and we have two boys and two girls! They aren't overly friendly, but I'm working with the girls every day with the hopes that they'll at least be handleable like their Mama is. :) Speaking of Mama, she's reached a point of indifference, I think. She started laying eggs a couple days ago, and since then she's kind of flocked with the babies, but isn't clucking for them or showing them around. And I think the babies are okay with this arrangement, because they kind of go off on their own anyway! My grandchickens are growing up!! SIGH!

Here are my strapping young gentlemen, Benjamin:

1000

And Winter:

1000

And the delicate little ladies, Indigo:

1000

And Marka:

1000

Here is a comparison of Winter and Marka, just because they gave me the opportunity to take this picture. Marky's face is so sweet! :love

1000

I cannot believe how big they are getting! Look at them!!

1000

The boys stick together pretty well. Never know when they'll need to spar to make sure they know who's bigger and badder, right? Inside...

1000

...Or outside!

1000

Winty's still got some awkwardness to him. DERP.

1000

He does not approve of the sharing of that picture, though!

1000

Meanwhile, Benjamin is still a stinker! That face! :love

1000

It's hard to get a picture that really shows it, but Marka's looking more and more like her Mama ever day. :love I almost had an adorable picture of them standing side by side, but Margie shook her head just as I took it and messed it all up!! :rant

1000

Here's my mini Silkie flock, hanging out together. :love

1300

To finish off the pictures, here are the flowers. :love The 'pink' daffodils. They're more pinkish in person, but this is pretty close to their color. Aren't they lovely? :love

1000

This one is more recently bloomed. You can see it still has yellow in it, so it's more orangey than pink.

1000

None of the white daffodils have opened yet, but there are some buds coming out on them! I didn't realize they were the multi-blossom kind (not sure what they are called?), but that's probably my favorite kind of daffodil, so I'm happy! :)

1000

The Puschkinias are lovely as ever! :love

1000

It looks like the balloon flower might be coming up again after all! Yay! :D

1000

And this Lilac bush has been here forever, much longer even than I've had chickens! But it's in bloom, and I couldn't resist taking a picture. I tried to get as many blossoms in one shot as possible, but this was the best I could do.

Love the pictures they are getting so big and beautiful. The flowers are gorgeous. Frou Frou would be proud of them.

Indigo always has that top knot that looks so cute. Those little pen feathers make it stand up.

Ben and Winter are becoming very handsome. They are going to be gorgeous roo's. That's cute they hang out togeather and spar.

I do think Marka is going to look a lot like her mother. I love her coloring.

Thanks so much for sharing their pics with us I enjoyed watching them grow and grow. Marge did everything perfect and even had 2 girls and 2 little boys.

Have a great day and good luck on your test.

Aw, yeah, I think Indi's stands out more than Marka's because of her coloration. Marky was raising and lowering her crest like a cockatoo when I was taking pictures that day, though, and I thought that was adorable! :love My little fluffy parrot!

Thanks for the luck--I think I'm going to need it!

Some bittersweet news this morning. Looks like Margie's decided to reject the babies. I let them out in their section of the coop before putting out their feed or opening the door to their outside pen, and she was chasing them around and pecking them. :/ She seems to have calmed down now that they have their feed and the door is open, but from the sounds of it, she's still chasing them off. The babies are pretty much independent of Marge at this point, coming and going while Margie does her own thing. I guess we'll see how serious she is when they go to bed tonight.

And I would just let Marge back into the flock, but Reuben's all stirred from not being able to get to her in so long that he's being a bit rough with her, so I figured she'd be safer with the babies until they're old enough to go into the flock as well. Reuben, Reuben, Reuben...

Have you tried just Rueben with the babies while Marge is not around? My silkie roo was great with the babies. At least Marge gave them a couple of extra weeks to be with her. Usually it's right around 6 weeks so she did good.

Thats cute Marky raising and lowering her top knot.

It does sound like something a parrot would do.

Thanks for the update and have a great day.

No, I haven't yet... I was thinking about that today, since Margie's over the 'mother experience'. We'll see. Reuby really doesn't like me catching him, so that'll probably be what slows me down with it.

This afternoon when I let the girls out to free-range, I peeked at the babies and they were all lined up on a log in their mini-yard. :love Margie was over by the gate just talking away, almost like she was waiting for me to get her outta there! My poor, darling grandchickens, abandoned! Anyway, Marge went in to dust bathe, and the babies were foraging all on their own, so I guess they really are okay without her. Amazing how fast they grow up!

Well, it's over! Summer break, here we come! I unfortunately have some kind of cold going on now, likely as a result of the stress getting the better of me, but I have all the time in the world to recover from it now. PHEW!

Anyway, the babies are 8 weeks old, and even with a cold I just had to get pictures of them. No better medicine than fuzzies! :love They don't like to make picture-taking easy on me anymore, though, so I had to corner them inside to take most of them. :p They're getting so big!! Benjamin is clearly bigger than the rest of them now, too! It's harder to capture in pictures, but he looks like he's going to be a big guy!

Here is Benjamin:

1000

Winter:

1000

Indigo:

1000

And Marka:

1000

Benjamin may be a big guy, but he's still such a goofball!

1000

And a cutie, too! :love

1000

Benji and Winty are best buds! Here they are hanging out together:

1000

Practicing their innocent looks. The little troublemakers.

1000

"Wasn't us!!"

1000

And playing on one of the branches outside together:

1000

Another Benjamin picture. This time, he was about to jump up and grab something I was holding.

1000

Meanwhile, Indigo is proving she is Margie's girl. Look at this face! This is the face I frequently got from Mama when the babies first hatched.

1000

Indigo and Marka don't stick together like their brothers do, but boy they look impressive together!

1000

Here's a serious face from Marka. She did not give permission for this!

1000

Indigo checking out her future digs in the rest of the coop. Not long now, sweetie!

1000

And Marka again, meeting Rosie. Rosie ducked down just as I took this picture, the little brat!

1000

In other news, the white daffodils are opening now! They open with yellow centers and then it fades to white after a day or two. You can see in this picture the progression; the most recent to bloom is the top one and the one that has been open longest is on the bottom right.

1000

Another shot of them. They're so pretty. :love

I hope you get to feeling better soon it's probably this crazy weather. We've had lots of rain and yesterday it was actually jacket weather. The sun is out today and looks much warmer then yesterday.

Oh my goodness those babies are growing way to fast. They are beautiful. I love them all. Have you heard any crows yet? Just wait
big_smile.png
they should be practicing real soon. You will get a kick out of it.

The daffodils are lovely. I love flowers but having the chickens in the yard they dig up anything I plant.

Indigo looked just like Marge in that pic.
big_smile.png
Get that camera out of my face. One of these days she is going to grow into that hair do.

Thanks so much for sharing them with us. I really enjoy seeing them grow up. It won't be long before you get your new babies. Your going to have a population explosion. I know chicken math you want 2 and buy 4.

Have a great day and thanks so much for the update.

No crowing practice yet from these young men! They are hilarious when they start, aren't they? They're so proud of themselves, but they sound so pathetic! I had one boy about 7 weeks old if I remember right that sounded like a squeaky toy when he crowed! Another young man started crowing at just over 3 weeks, and he just sounded like he was making this chirpy peep noise.

My flowers are fenced off from the girls, otherwise I think they'd be torn up by now. The ones that still sprout where the chickens are are tattered at this point, though surprisingly they aren't completely destroyed and some of them even bloomed a few weeks ago! The hens quite enjoyed eating the flowers.

I love that, grow into her hairdo. Indi's going to be a beauty, just like her mama. :love Marky, too. I think Benjamin's going to give Reub a run for his money as well, he's shaping up to be a big fella.

My chicken math works more like buy 4 and want 42,749,274. :p Too bad building supplies cost so much! I'd have 18,730,284 coops for my 42,749,274 chickens. :D I wonder how hard it would be to name that many chickens...
