Pipd's Peeps!

Thank you and I am so glad you didn't give Crash the nutridrench. I think the baby vitamins would be a lot safer for her.

No little turtle babies in our future. I put her egg in my collection of itty bitty chicken eggs. I was shocked when I saw the egg we were so sure she was a he. :D

One week on the new babies that's so exciting. Are you going to take pics of them weekly like you did the silkies?

We have more rain today. The ducks love all the rain but the chickens aren't happy with it all.

Marge wants more babies. I love silkies but they are so broody all the time. You don't need an incubater when you have silkies.

Have a great day and i hope you feel better.

There will probably be near daily pictures of the babies, at least while my camera memory lasts! :D Actually, there probably would have been more frequent pictures of Margie's babies when they were little if I wasn't so busy with class there for a while. Oh, well.

And yeah, I'm speculating Margaret is more interested in being an incubator than a mother. The babies seem so confused. She has been sitting in their carrier for a couple days, and they never know if they can go in to pile up for the night or not! I guess it won't matter before long, as I'm sure they'll integrate into the flock fairly easily. Only thing holding me back at this point is that Reuben really, really misses Margie and has shown signs of getting rough with her again as a result.

We're getting some rain up here, too, but that's fortunate for me because my mom put in our garden a couple days ago! So at least I don't have to drag myself outside to water it today! I feel like I'm recovering at this point, but still coughing and choking on congestion. Ugh. I'm sure I'll be on my feet again in the next few days. Either way, I've got to get some things tomorrow and prepare for the chicks this week. No rest for the wicked, as they say. :p

Edited to add the quote.

Oh great more pics I can't wait to see the babies. Now how many are you getting in the mail? I think 8 is the most chicks we've had in the brooder at one time. I would pull up a chair and sit and watch them. It was better then any tv show.

I'm glad your moms garden got some rain. I planted some special grass that I bought just for foraging chickens couple of days ago. My husband put down land scape timbers and covered with a wire so the chickens can't pull the grass up from the roots they can just eat the grass as it grows threw the wires.I hope that comes up for them to eat. I haven't had to water it all with all this rain we've been getting.

I think silkies roos know what breed they are and prefer the silkie hens. None of my other roos seemed to care what breed they mate with but not the silkies. You've got all those hens and he misses Marge. Go figure.

None in the mail--that scares me! We're driving out to Ohio to pick them up. :) ...In just 6 days!! :D

I've got 8 chicks ordered:
3 Silver Gray Dorkings (1 cockerel, 2 pullets)
2 BBS Cochin pullets
1 BBS Ameraucana pullet
1 Easter-egger pullet
1 Light Brahma pullet

And depending on what's available and whether I'm feeling particularly weak-willed or not, I may add another Dorking pullet or something once I'm there. But I will do my best to resist the chicken math. :D

Reub sure seems to be head over heels over Margie, anyway! He did come from a Silkie flock, though, so I imagine it has a lot to do with that. He breeds the other hens, too, but when Margie is around he only has eyes for her. Such a hopeless romantic.

I have a few grazing frames as well! I love the idea, especially since the girls have completely wrecked any form of plant life in their yard and even in a large area just outside of it. I haven't started the grass under the ones for the girls yet this year, and the Guineas wrecked the one they had so I need to restart it. Guess I'd better get to it!

So if your going to pick up the chicks chances are you will get some extras.

Here goes the chicken math.

We've got more rain today. I fed them this morning in the rain and now it's pouring down again and I will be wading in water to feed them again. We are going to float away if it keeps it up here.

I didn't know it was called grazing frames but that's what I have. My chickens won't let anything grow unless its behind a fence and I've got a couple that will fly over the fence too.

How is Crash doing? I hope she is feeling better. Poor baby first she has soft eggs then she gets her nose all stopped up.

Have a great day

Shh! That'll never happen! :p I don't know the meaning of chicken math!

Oh my goodness, 5 days to go! We went out to get supplies for them yesterday and I ended up with nothing! :th The feed store was sold out of all but the expensive organic chick feed and the medicated feed, so I didn't get feed. They had only huge waterers, none of the chick sized waterers, so I didn't get the waterer. They did have feeders that weren't too big, but I decided to hold out for the kind I prefer. They didn't have the disinfecting wipes I wanted for the babies' first week here. And I forgot entirely to get a tarp and some duct tape to make the brooder out of. So all I got after all yesterday is the feed for the big girls. :he

We got a lot of rain yesterday, too. I know, because it downpoured when I went out to close the coops. Trudi and Malcolm have been enjoying the rain, anyway. Trudi had mud all up her beak and face from playing in the mud puddle below their pool, her favorite thing to do.

Crashie is improving in some ways, but not in others. I forgot to give her her vitamins yesterday, but she was more active, playing in her water more, digging through the shavings, things she hasn't really done in a while. She still sleeps a lot more than she should, but she's more active, so there's that. Her nose still seems pluggy, though. Not to the extent that it's bothering her like before, but I can still see gunk in there. I'm keeping an eye on things and planning out what I can do. :)

Crash had to move downstairs this week so the babies can have my room for their first week or two, so it's been interesting. She's used to having me around all the time when she's in her living room pen, but I've been bringing her down first thing and going to take care of the chickens or showering or going out shopping while she's out there. She seems to be settling into this as the routine. Now, once the brooder is set up and the babies are here, she'll have to stay downstairs overnight for a couple weeks, and that's when it'll get really interesting...

Anyway, gotta run. We're going to check another feed store for baby supplies today. Fingers crossed! :fl

Hopefully you can get the supplies you need! I can't imagine how big of a pain it would be to have everything sold out.

Good to hear that Cash is doing better <3

Yay!!! New chicks

Hopefully everyone will be healthy and you won't lose any

I hope they have the supplies you need today at the store. We went out yesterday and I wanted to pick up a few things at the store and get a vacumn cleaner belt. Well it rained so hard and the parking lot was packed and we couldn't even get near the door. So we ended up coming back in town and I went to Aldi's which you can park right by the door. Of course Aldi's doesn't sell vacumn cleaner bags so the main thing I went after I didn't get. At least I did get the milk

Do you cover Crash's cage at night? If you cover her she probably won't even notice she's not sleeping upstairs. Their such creatures of habit and change is scary.

Have a nice day and I hope your trip was worth while.

Thanks for the well wishes, yall! Checked most of the supplies off my checklist! :D Non-medicated starter, a feeder and waterer, and a tarp. Only thing left to get is the disinfecting wipes, but if nothing else I can use paper towels and soapy water if it comes to that. So all I need to do is to wash an old towel for their first few days and locate one of the many rolls of duct tape that I have been informed are somewhere in the house. Then all that's left is a major cleanup of my room and setting up the brooder! Yay!!

Crashie does seem to be doing a lot better today. Right now, she's telling me she's ready for bed. (That's the rough translation of the quiet, "Wat wat wat? Wat wat wat? Wat wat wat?" and nodding, nodding, nodding that I get from her about this time every night. ) I don't normally cover her at night, only ever have once because I was on my computer late at night and didn't want to keep her up. I think she'll be okay. I can't leave her in her living room pen because of the cats, so I'm planning on putting her in a laundry basket in my parents' bathroom (where the big tub is that she's been bathing in) for night time. I think if I close the coops outside before putting her to bed so that I can sit in there with her until she falls asleep for the first few nights that she'll feel more relaxed about it. Or so I hope. :fl She only has to sleep down there until I think the babies are old enough to be introduced to her and all her grown-up germs. :p

Anyway, the duckie wants to be taken to bed right now. Good night, yall! :)

I'm glad you found the things you needed. When you pick up the chicks do you get to pick the ones you want or they already boxed up for you? I've never been to a hatchery before as you can tell.

I'm glad Crash is doing better. As long as she has your

beside her when she goes to sleep she should do fine then. Does she go outside in the summer time?

Did you get the storms last night? We had thunder and lightening and our power flickered but thankfully come back on. I seen on facebook a lot of people were without power. Rain is predicted today again.

Have a great day and give Crashie a hug from me.
