Sorry for no posts yesterday, y'all, I've been busy getting ready for the babies! Just 3 days to go!! e I have everything now, including the wipes, and even got some tiny zip ties to mark the babies of the same breed if they're hard to tell apart! So excited!! Today is room cleaning and brooder setup day, so Crash moves out of my room today! It's going to be an interesting weekend...

I'm glad you found the things you needed.  When you pick up the chicks do you get to pick the ones you want or they already boxed up for you?  I've never been to a hatchery before as you can tell.

I'm glad Crash is doing better.  As long as she has your beside her when she goes to sleep she should do fine then.  Does she go outside in the summer time?  

Did you get the storms last night?  We had thunder and lightening and our power flickered but thankfully come back on.  I seen on facebook a lot of people were without power.  Rain is predicted today again.

They're already boxed. They don't let you back where the chicks are hatching or being sorted for biosecurity reasons, so you don't get to pick your own. However, they do usually have bins out with the older chicks that haven't sold and the breeds that they hatched more than expected of, so if I do decide to pick one out special, I can pick from there.

Crashie goes outside when I go out with her. If she can't see me, she just sits and cries and cries for me. Hopefully when the babies are bigger and can be introduced to her, she'll bond with them enough to go outside with them and not freak out without me!

No storms that night, but we did get a storm yesterday afternoon. It was just some rumbling and a nice downpour. As if we needed any more rain! But it's starting out nice and sunny today at least!

Hi! I know what could help crashie make her some egg with garlic powder, my duck,duck duck she has that and I just gave her some,I put her in my lap (she won't eat out of my hand )and held moth open a little put a pice in and she ate it,I hope crash gets better soon can't wat to see ur chicks,I'm getting mine in June.sending prayers that crash gets better

Thanks for the suggestion! Crashie's not shy around food, so I'm sure she'll eat whatever I give her. She already begs and begs whenever she sees me eating, spoiled ducky.

Editing to add, oh yeah, and I didn't get pictures of the Silkie babies yesterday because of the stormy, rainy weather, but will hopefully get some pictures today! They're getting so big and fluffy!

Picture time! The babies were 9 weeks old yesterday! Can you believe they were little fluffy babies just two months ago?! It'll be shocking to compare them to the babies on Monday!

Marky's the only one that cooperates for me to get pictures while holding her, though.

She's such a sweetie.

Winter, on the other hand, is a MAN. And don't you forget it!

Even when he is all nestled down.

Benjamin still thinks he's the cutest thing on two legs.

I love his eyes.

One last one of Indigo out in the bushes. They are impossible to get good pictures of when they're out there! They just go so deep into the bushes that there's just some white fluff visible through the branches. Indi disappears, though, with her dark feathers!

Now, I don't believe I mentioned it here, but with Margie broody, I've moved her out to the broody buster so that she's off the nest. And since Georgette the Black Copper Marans is also broody now, and Margie does not like to share her space with Georgie, I went ahead and put Georgie in with the babies. She doesn't bother them, and they steer clear of her, but she sure makes it hard to get pictures. Apparently, if I'm in the pen with her, Georgie believes I'm there to give her attention. The following pictures are just two examples of what happened ALL THROUGH the Silkie babies' photo shoot.

So, since she wanted my attention, and she was posing so nicely, I got a nice picture of her, too. Don't mind her chewed up neck feathers; the girls have been plucking each other lately and I haven't figured out why yet.

Since the babies are getting along so well with Georgie, I think that after the hatchery babies have settled in and I'm not as distracted by them, I may let the Silkie babies out with the big girls and see how they do. Judging by how the girls act toward them through the fence, they should integrate into the flock seamlessly, maybe a few pecks from the big meanies of the flock. I guess we'll find out when it happens!

In other news, my room is half way cleaned for the babies. I hope to finish it tonight or tomorrow morning. Crashie's pen is ready for her to stay downstairs at night. We'll see if she's ready for that!

The pics are gorgeous. The little fluff balls just keep getting bigger and bigger. Ben's eyes look they are hazel. All the other silkies have black eyes. That's really cute. I don't know how you get them to stand still for their photo shoot but you've did it every week. It must take a lot of time and effort to do it. Georgie probably didn't know what to make of all those little fluff balls running around. I'm glad they got along with her.

I hope Crash does ok with her move downstairs. With her laying eggs maybe she will have that motherly instinct and make some bonds with the new chicks when you put them togeather. That would be nice if she did make some new friends.

Haha, yup, a LOT of effort! I take about 50-75 pictures every time and only post around 15-20 of them, just the best ones, so you can see a lot of them don't make the cut! It does help to have a camera that catches motion without blurring, too, if I have it on the right setting.

Crashie survived! She didn't take nearly as long as I thought she would to settle down, either. Once it was dark, she was only chirp-chirp-chirping, and she was fine after about 30 minutes. I covered her like you suggested a page or two ago, and I think that helped a lot. Something must have scared her in the night, though, because she had shavings kicked everywhere. Poor baby!

Still, since that went so well, it's time to finish the cleanup and set up the brooder in my room! e Just 2 days left!!



In other news, Benjamin has decided to declare his manhood this morning! He crowed!! He crowed and scared the poo out of the other three! It sounded so cartoonish and strangled, something like a "Bawk-bawk-wheeze!" or a "Bawk-a-doo-wheeze!" He's so proud of himself, though! The poor guy tried his best. I think the rest of the babies thought he was sick or something, the way they were looking at him!

I should have known Ben would be the first to crow. He was the first to hatch then the crowing. I know it sounds so funny when they first start out perfecting that crow. The others would be looking at him like what the heck is wrong with you.

This strange weather is something else. It's only supposed to get up to 55 today. The wind is blowing and it's down right chilly out. It's suppose to warm back up tomorrow tho.

I am glad Crash did well. I think the towel over her would make her feel more secure.

2 Silver Gray Dorking pullets and one cockerel, 2 BBS Cochin pullets, 1 Light Brahma pullet, 1 Easter-egger pullet, 1 BBS Ameraucana pullet, and whatever else 'sneaks' into the box while I'm there. You know, because chicks are super sneaky like that...

My room is cleaned, EcoGlows wiped off and ready, and the brooder is about 90% set up! Just waiting for a towel to finish in the dryer so that I can put it down for the babies' first few days. Almost there!!
