 
  
  
Sorry for the post and run. That was tough. So soon after we'd just been talking about such things, too. Ugh, I'm still feeling teary over losing my Judy booty. Her absolute beauty, that glorious fluff butt, and complete with the textbook Cochin attitude I've come to adore from these birds. She was not with us for long, but I will miss her so, so much. 
 
Assessing the situation last night and this morning, the conclusion I have come to is that it was some sort of freak happenstance. I believe she burst a blood vessel or something while laying her egg yesterday. Between the 
bloody mass hanging from her vent, how pale she was when I found her, and some signs of internal bleeding in her lower abdomen, I've concluded she must have just passed away from blood loss from the event. A one in a million sort of thing, one of those terrible reminders of how fragile life can be. 
 
The weather is currently uncooperative to such efforts, but I'm hoping I can properly lay her to rest later this afternoon or evening.
