pips and zip and LOTS of pics... Lockdown.......Hatch date 8/28

Not great...I had some thermometer issues- found out my thermometer was reading 2 degrees hot, so I incubated at 2 degrees cool the whole time.
I think I'm lucky I got a hatch at all!
I set 16 eggs but 3 were infertile and 3 were early quitters so 10 eggs made it through to lockdown (plus 2 quail eggs)

Of those 10, 2 have hatched, 1 has zipped and is still alive and working on hatching right now, but she's on day 25 right so who knows if she'll be strong enough to finish hatching. (I have a second incubator for hatching)

2 birds pipped and zipped and then died in the shell.

Oh, and I got 1 healthy quail to hatch (the other egg was infertile)

So all in all, not too bad considering the temp problems. I think I've got the problem corrected on my 12 salmon faverolles eggs.

You can see why I'm having trouble being patient to candle!!!

I'm a little worried about my eggs...I'm afraid the heat is going to hard-boil them

It was 104 in the coop yesterday. I have plenty of ventilation (it's a very open-style coop), it's just freakin hot outside and we don't have any shade trees around. I have a tarp over the top, and I keep going out there and hosing everything down to try to cool things.

Sammie is doing a great job of sitting. She's gotten up a couple of times to poop, eat, drink, and dust bathe...and while she's up, we have several willing babysitters

it's really cute. Eva the Easter Egger is sitting on them right now while Sammie is eating. Yesterday, it was Opal (Buff Orp) who took over the mommy-duties for a few minutes.

I really wonder how outside heat effects and broody hatch? I'll be very interested to see how this all plays out.

Keep us posted.

Twist my arm...OK!

I threw out my suspected dud yesterday.

I also started 6 more "pink" easter eggers on the 12th. I am so bad.

I have some eggs in too, due on the 27th. I got some guinea eggs shipped and I have a few out of there developing, and a couple peafowl eggs that I had shipped, I think those are vacant.

I also threw in random eggs from around the barn and funny enough one already hatched! Just a couple days ago I came home to find an egg all zipped and then out comes a duck. I guess one of the eggs I grabbed to throw in already had been half incubated and I just finished the job. This is my second time incubating.

Good luck to everyone!

I cried all the way to work this morning. I was sure one egg was a dud. after 7 days looked like a 3-4 day embryo.....

I"M SICK.

Courtney-

Does that mean you cracked it & looked inside?

I am so sorry! *hugs*

We lost power yesterday for about an hour....The temp went down as low as 92, but I spent all evening watching the bator trying to make sure it didn't "swing high" and cook them. I am a little worried about the eggies.
