I broke it open. YES

Yay, candling day! I'll let you all know how it goes

cluck, I think maybe you didn't see the embryo because it was a green egg... I had some brown eggs that I couldn't see embryos in until at least day 10, but then they were fully developed by hatch day. I didn't throw anything away until day 18 just to be extra sure. Too scared of having what happened to you happen to me

I'm behind y'all by a few days, but I might candle tonight anyways, just to see what I can see. I certainly won't make any decisions about duds or anything, just check out what 4-5 day old eggs look like.

Pinto...that's too funny...what a surprise to find a baby after less than a week!

Cluck...I'm so sorry about your egg...I wonder why it was so behind in developing. Now I know to leave any suspected duds a few more days at least...

well, bad news....I don't think I will be hatching any Salmon Faverolles this time around.
FedEx had left the eggs on my doorstep at delivery and they didn't ring the doorbell so I didn't find them for 3 hours! I think they just got too hot.

There were 3 out of 12 that showed "something" but nothing like what an embryo should look like at day 8.

I did set some of my own Silver Spangled Hamburg eggs on 8/11 though, and I candled those too just to check fertility, and they are growing just fine. So maybe I'll get something to hatch a couple of days after you all.

Ugh....so frustrated!

Can I jump in? I just candled on Day 8. I only have 6 out of 16 eggs this time. I have two little BLR Wyandotte Banties and 4 Golden Cuckoo Marans (pullet eggs). I'm really hoping the wyandottes will hatch!

Bananas, Thats what mine looked like today that I cracked open. maybe a dark spot but nothing like what it should. Don't throw those duds yet.

Welcome new folks.... How are the candlers coming along?

I'm a little late seeing this post but I had set 15 RIR eggs on the 9th. I haven't candled yet. Thankfully, I bought the eggs from a person who offers a one time garantee where how ever many eggs don't develope they will replace them one time! Great selling if you ask me! This is my second hatch. My first was a complete failure. I didn't have a very good bator that would hold proper humidity and they were too dry by hatch time when I had a better bator. They were shrink wrapped and couldn't get out. this time I have a better one built that is hold humidity just fine. We'll see how it goes!

vkp, who is that seller that replaces eggs, I need to buy eggs from somebody like that!

cluck, no, the rest of the eggs won't develop. The air sacs are all detached. I just learned today that detached air sacs are a sign of post office "scrambling" and will not develop. I saw the forum on detached air sacs and it's pretty interesting.
Anyway, these eggs were shipped via FedEx, and I think they were really handled roughly. Great packing job on the seller's part, but obviously mishandled en route....oh well.

Anyway, only 3 eggs have stable air sacs. They look like something's going on inside possibly and I definitely will not throw them out. Probably won't give up on them till day 18 right before lockdown (assuming they still don't show anything)....I'm such a wimp, I'm not throwing out the detached air sac ones either, even though they're all clear...

I have 20 quail eggs in my other bator that are due to hatch on Tuesday though, and 5 Silver spangled Hamburg eggs that I set on August 11th, so all is not lost...

This incubating thing is really much harder than I would have thought!

Greetings fellow " incubatingers " !!

if there is such a word ! You dear folk are making it hard for me as I am determined to wait until day 10 and all your talk of candling is making me want to get on with it

I sympathise with those of you who have had bitter disappointments, there sure are a lot of things that can go wrong.

There is no way i could have waiting until day 10. However this is my first hatch.

I am learning alot though. Definently don't throw anything out unless it smells yet!
