pips and zip and LOTS of pics... Lockdown.......Hatch date 8/28

The seller is http://myworld.ebay.com/tmiller0459/ From what I can tell they only have RIR's. But did a great packing job. I think I;m going to have to use my replacment. I candled last night and all but a couple had loose yolks. Nothing devloped in any of them eccept 6 maybe's. But even those are stuck in the large end of the egg. I don't think they are going to make it. thist is totally not the sellers fault but the PO's. *SIGH* Well looked like I'm going to have to weight till pay day so I can pay the shipping for more RIR's. Atleast I have my runner ducks still that are due the 10th. Maybe if I get my new RIRs in time they will all have the same hatch date!

I just couldn't help myself...I had to candle last night even though it's only day 4 or 5 (I set in the late afternoon, so not sure if Monday counts). My hubby, 2 kids and I all went into the coop with a small LED flashlight. I didn't candle every egg because broody Sammie was very upset about the whole thing...

We definitely saw veining in a Silkie egg and Leghorn egg...my DH said he saw veining in the EE egg but I wasn't sure. Couldn't see anything in the Buff Orp egg, but it's kind of dark brown so we'll wait on that one. We didn't check the other Leghorn or Silkie egg yet because I was trying not to stress out Sammie too much.

Overall, we were all very excited to see the eggs developing

I set on the 7th (7 silkie eggs), but I found that the hydrometer had fallen and kept the turner from turning for a couple days so I dunno how good my hatch will be. However, all 7 eggs show signs of something in there, and none of them are stinky, so it's just all that terrible waiting now. *laughs*

Happy half-way point! I'm not quite there yet, but getting close.

Our little broody girl has been sitting on the coop floor with her eggs (she never laid eggs in the nest boxes, always on the floor)...so yesterday we built a little "cage" around her so she and her babies are safer from the other hens. They aren't really bothering her, but sometimes they take her food that I give her, and sometimes they lay an egg next to her, which she quickly grabs and hides under her.

Good thing I marked the ones that I let her keep! Also, I don't know how the big girls will react to the babies, so now they will always have a safe place to go.

Well I started with 41. 5 were infertile. 2 got rotten. 1 I got eager and broke it open only to find it was viable.

I have 33 left and all seem to be coming along. (15 of 18 shipped eggs from bargain and soaring along with flying colors.)

Well..the 8/28 bunch has had the worst fate of all my Aug hatches so far.Started with 27 all shipped and only 12 are still looking good 2 questionable

Well- it was day 7-8 for my second batch of eggs, so I candled this morning. Looks to be a few possibilities in there. I also couldn't help candling a few of my older ones, and everyone is going alon swimmingly.

I was very excited--because I re-candled my cuckoo maran egg that I had been sure was a dud (it appeared to have a blood rung, but was dark and I wasn't sure) Well-the "blood ring" seems to have disapeared and it looks like there is a little something developing in there. No smell, so maybe a late bloomer?

I am setting it aside with the second batch of eggs. I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

Hi everyone, well I survived the wait to candle and it isn't looking that great. I have 7 good eggs? and 7 I am very doubtful of but I am not very experienced at this so I will candle again in 5 or 6 days and then make up my mind as to what I will do. I wonder if I should candle at day 8 in future attempts because what I see now in what I think are good eggs is a quite large dark mass and way in the distant past we tried hatching eggs and we candled the eggs at 10 days and we saw distinct veining and a small blob. Maybe my new incubator puts the chickens growth a bit ahead of my old incubator, what do you think ? I am running it at 37.5 celcius and 50% humidity. Are these good settings ? Thank you and I hope you all are having at least some, if not great, success.
