pips and zip and LOTS of pics... Lockdown.......Hatch date 8/28

I have only seen distinct veining in my white eggs....in my blue and brown eggs, I'm seeing a large dark blob that moves (floats) inside the egg. I was worried that maybe I was just seeing the yolk, but when I candle a fresh egg, I don't see a yolk...it's just clear. I really hope that blob is a forming chick

This is my first time, so I don't know what a bad eggs looks like. I sniffed those eggs and there is absolutely no smell coming from them, and my broody hasn't rejected any eggs, so I'm taking those as good signs.

The last thing I want to do is discard a viable egg...I've learned from others' mistakes!

Cluck_Addict, so glad my eggs are doing fine....I'm anxiously lurking here....

ANy babies yet....Well, I guess I'm a little early.....

Talk to them please and sing to them...I do that for their parents when they were in the shell....I'm still sending prayers And oh yes, they like outloud prayers tooo.

Please share with others that we are still shipping eggs. The weather has not stopped fertility here. We've had a bit of a "foggy" cool down here and our fertility is really high.

Please pm me when the hatch is don!!!!'
Be blessed

TX mom, yup, that is the embryo! This is my second hatch, and in my brown eggs that is what they looked like. If you see any veins at all the egg is definitely alive. The instant the embryo dies the veins collapse and disappear. As for the brown eggs, it was really late in incubation that I started to see veins. Mostly I just saw the embryo swimming around in there. If you see that dark blob up near the big end of the egg, it's the embryo. I don't know what day you're on, but after day 12 or so I could even see the embryos moving!

Don't worry, they sound like they're doing just fine. They told me last time not to candle too much, really just once between day 7 and 10, and once on day 17 or 18 right before lockdown. I know it's hard to wait, but you need to be patient! Your babies will be fine

This is so exciting...but it's taking FOREVER! LOL At least I have baby chicks coming in at the feedstore (hopefully today) to keep my mind off my eggies. I want to candle every day, but I've resisted the urge and only done it twice so far. My little broody Sammie is awesome...she's so cute when she's inspecting her eggs and moving them around. She has good broody-instincts...I just hope she's a great mommy. But if she's not, I can always put the babies in the brooder with my feedstore babies.

Wouldn't you want to keep them seperate until you are sure the feed store babies aren't icky? That would be a shame if they were sick and got your hard-hatched ones sick too.

Oh and good news!
I had 7 baby quail pop out this morning! I have a separate hatching incubator so I have eggs at a couple different stages right now. I was getting worried about the quail eggs because they were a day late but I woke up this morning to 7 babies! I will post pics when I get them. Oh yeah, and the quail literally POP out...completely different than chickens, they're like popcorn! One comes out so fast and next thing you know the whole batch is out. It's crazy!

Also I found out that my bantam faverolle eggs (the one with hatch date 8/28) are probably all no good. Turns out the seller has a reputation for sending out infertile eggs, and most of my eggs have candled clear with or without detached air sacs. They are in the incubator alongside other eggs that are developing perfectly, so I don't think it's my fault at least (Phew!). Either shipping trauma or infertile eggs....At least now I don't feel so bad.

I will stay on this thread though, I am enjoying you guys! Hopefully I'll get at least one baby out of my Faverolle batch but I'm not getting my hopes up...

Stay patient everybody, you're almost there. Only 5 days till lockdown!

Awwww, that's too bad about your Faverolles

Great news about your quail though...that sounds super cute...popping like popcorn...LOL.

As far as my hatching babies and feedstore babies...I just picked up my feedstore babies and they are already in my brooder. They are super-cute! They were just hatched at Ideal yesterday and shipped to Steinhausers...then Steinhausers called me as soon as they were in this morning... Almost all of my chickens are from Ideal so I'm not overly worried about anything. And I don't plan on bringing my broody-hatched babies (due in 10 days) inside...unless there's a problem. So what I'm saying is...basically the plan is to all be separate, and will eventually be put together down the road, unless there's a problem and have to be put together sooner. But even in that case, I will have had these babies longer and should know if there are any problems by then.

Bargain, You are just the most fantastically awesome wonderful lady. I can't thank you enough for the warm welcome and superior egg buying experience. I check on them several times a day and hope I can take as good care of them as you do their parents.

I'll keep you posted.
