Pit bulls- evil. Golden retrievers- BEST DOGS EVER!!! :D:D

Pits weren't bred to fight at all. They were originally bred to hunt wild boar, if I'm not mistaken. THUGS have now unfortunantly begun to breed them to fight each other. It was not their breeding to begin with.

Actually, I have seen more labs who bite than pits. It's just the image that the thugs have now given a once nice breed.

I have always wondered though, why do "thugs" (of any race) are usually seen with a dog like a pitbull? I've never seen anyone in Los Angeles that fits the "gangster swag blah blah" description with a Dachshund or a Tibetan Spaniel. Tibetan Spaniels are so cute by the way n.n
Pitbulls aren't mean if raised right. Wanna know a mean breed of dog? Jindos, from my own experience I have to vote for jindos. Raising a jindo with love and respect will make it a great companion, but strangers should beware. I remember I was at a woman's house with my mom for dinner (when I was young) and she had 3 jindos, I thought they were like any other dogs so I made noises and clapped, they growled, chased me back into the house and I cried. They're also difficult dogs http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/jindo.htm I do think they are pretty looking dogs though.

I think it's just a tough, macho image they think looks cool.

What most makes the temperament of any dog is the temperament of the parents. Temperament is DEFINITELY inherited, including the propensity for dog aggression, guarding ability, and arousal threshold and sharpness.

What made the Pit Bull such a sought after family pet in the early to mid 20th century was its inherent stability, love and tolerance for children, and UNWILLINGNESS to bite a person, any person. These dogs should be completely non aggressive towards humans. This is a remnant of the dog fighting history. A man had to be able to go into the pit and get his dog from the fight once it refused to scratch. Any dog that bit a human, even in the heat of the battle, was culled. "Gameness", or the instant willingness to fight with heart and courage no matter what, was a highly prized trait. The issue with the breed today is poor breeding by people who don't understand this trait. When the GAME trait is directed towards a human instead of another dog, very bad things happen. Uninhibited attacks where dogs DO NOT STOP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. When the trait of being unwilling to bite any human being is removed from the equation with this breed, you have a problem. This is why these dogs should NEVER be crossed with working breeds or certain other terriers or herding dogs who have more of a willingness to stand up, guard, and threaten/bite a person.

If we are referring to the APBT then yes they were originally bred to bait bulls and I believe bears. Eventually using them for those purposes were outlawed and using them in pits unfortunately became popular. I do believe it has more to do with proper training than the specific breeds. I've been around plenty of various breeds through out my life. I've been around other Wolfdogs, Chows, and APBT but have yet to be bitten my any of them. However, I have been bitten on more than one occasion by Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Poodles.
Yep, APBT. I posted a link in another post saying this exactly.

I too have seen more Labs who bite.
