Planned Parenthood not to blame; the truth post #25

Birth control pills can cost up to $90/month.

Planned Parenthood, or any doctor cannot make a person take a medication they do not want to. People have even gone to court on this issue, especially when it concerns prisoners, and their competency. You cannot compel someone to take something they don't want.

This young woman did what druggies do. They lied to make someone leave them alone, agreed to get help, and then didn't tell the doctor everything. It would not have been any different if she had seen her own doctor. And her mom would not have been allowed to come into the exam room anywhere if her daughter did not want her there.

I do think that a doctor that someone has a relationship with is a better choice. Maybe not for druggies but people tend to listen to a doctor if they are more than an aquaintance. PP is generally used for one thing and it is not used for pre-natal.

In this case you are most likely right she did not really want to go anyhow.

My doctor routinely tells me to not take certain meds when I request them. She is more influential than other doctors that just write prescriptions at will.

Planned Parenthood is used for numerous things not just one. Planned Parenthood is for males & females. It is used for pre-natal & for,get this, planning parents. Contrary to what you might be under the impression of,there are doctors in PP & they aren't just there for "druggies". Many people, men & women, go to PP as their primary care when it comes to all sorts of issues. It is not a half-way house for back alley medical procedures. It is a facilty that helps those that need & want the help.

Yeah, true. But i wouldnt go to it if i had a primary care doctor or a regular gyno that i saw yearly...it would make no sense to me to go to PP..
From MY understanding PP is mostly used for folks with low income or folks with no insurance or on state paid health insurance.. but thats not ALWAYS true either..

I know a LOT of people who have full-time jobs with insurance who use PP or their local equivilant. A lot of insurance plans still don't cover birth control, for instance. Fees are on a sliding scale and that helps support those who can't afford to pay, while giving a HUGE price break even for those ladies who pay full price. For instance, yes my insurance would cover my pap smear but the co-pay was $50 for the office visit and I had to pay out of pocket for my depo shot so that was another $160. I can go to PP and get a pap and full medical workup as well as my depo for $20. No way I could afford the $160 for depo every 3 months! At PP I paid $20 for pap/shot and $10 just for the shot.

ETA: and yes, I had a regular dr at PP. I usually only saw the Nurse Practicioner for my shot, but that is who would give it to me at most "real" clinics. I was free to sit up an appt to discuss with the dr at any time though. All my records were shared with my primary care dr.

Like I said before it is like shoppiong at The Gap versus Walmart. It would be like going to a tire store that offers oil changes.

Seems I have a new admirer, Scovy Mama she is following me and arguing with me on all my RR posts.

Thank you all for your insight, advice and support. I have had my questions answered and learned a lot...mostly NOT to jump to any conclusions! I've asked that this thread be locked now. Thanks again! :)
