plantar faciitis

Plantar Fasciitis can be a symptom of Hypothyroidism.

I hope you feel better soon!

hypothyrodism runs in my family sister brother mom and dad.....they check it once a year....i will get it checked in feb. ....

Before you get out of bed in the morning you can simply flex your foot upward. Do each foot a few times and you won't think you are dying with those first steps! It works, honestly. Do it laying down or sitting on the edge of the bed. HTH

I also have bone spurs, have has them for years, I carry mail, walk 8-10 miles a day and weigh 230 pounds so I understand your pain! I have had the shots and they have lasted anywhere from a couple months to a couple years. I wear custon made orthitics, they are hard fiberglass that supports the arch, these I feel are the best. Boots are better to wear than tennis shoes as they offer more support, tennis shoes offer a mushy or soft support which is not good for bone spurs. I also wear thin steel plates under the orthos and this prevents your foot from bending, bending actually causes more pain. In the summer when I wear tennis shoes they last 4-6 weeks than I have to get new ones, boots last quite a bit longer. I also have a plastic boot I can wear when I sleep, this holds the foot at a 90 degree angle which is ideal for sleep and holds off the morning pain. One thing that helps with the pain is a 2 litre bottle of water frozen, just roll it under your arch on a towel. Hope this helps! chris in mo............

I have had this problem for 12 years now... I had shots in my heels, ultra sound... stretching in the morning with balls, vegie cans, etc...
the only thing that worked for me is birkenstock sandals.
I wear them most of the time, for about 3 years I wore nothing but birkenstock clogs, you have to get the right pair, with a low heel cup. keep them by your bed, wear them all the time.
I also got the walkfit shoe inserts from tv for 20bucks and also put them in mens shoes, I found that the arch support is different in mens shoes, than in womens.
taking breaks also helps.
I have a job where I stand up all day long, and if I don't take breaks and sit, just for a few minutes, I get more pain.
it has been better with the walkfit inserts. you have to get used to them though, they have 3 different arch inserts.
the birks are really good though. sometimes you can find cheap versions, I found some at walmart, clogs, looks like toe imprints in it, they work but wear out faster than the birks.
My son in law has them and he is thin, he had surgery on them and guess it has worked out for him but I just never had that time to take off work. besides I would rather do anything than surgery!!!
losing weight I do believe has helped me though, I am on weight watchers and have lost 27 lbs. so far.
good luck, and keep trying different things until you find something that works for you!

Peachy!!! I suffer from that in my right foot. The BEST and ONLY way I have ever made it better is to put my foot behind me and rest the heel flat on the floor, just like you would stretch out your calves...... Over and over day after day. Doing that consistently, I rarely have an issue now.

I suffered with Plantar Facitis for a number of years. After several doctors and cortisone shots, 3 different types of insoles, electric impusle therapy, oral anti-inflamatory pills - nothing was working. I remember how it felt like the first 10 steps when you got out of bed in the morning were like you were walking on 'ice picks'. Extremely painful !

I finally figured out what was happening. I used to wear expensive SAS uniform shoes because my job had me standing on my feet all day. I kept them polished and looking good and tried to get my monies worth out of them! Well, unfortunately I was wearing them well past their life expectancy and the shoe structure was breaking down and I did not have the support I needed which was causing the Plantar muscle to become inflammed. Once I realized this I bought new uniform shoes every six months. I went to a less expensive brand called SafeTracks. That way I was sure to always have good solid structured shoes. The Plantar Facitis went away and I learned that just because you paid a lot for a pair of shoes doesn't mean they will last forever and it is better to replace shoes before they breakdown.

Oh I know EXACTLY what you are going through because I am too!

My right foot hurts so badly that when I get out of bed in the morning, I have to hold on to the bed as I make my way out of the room. It hurts terribly all day long, especially after sitting down for more than 5 minutes. I limp all the time. My left foot is also starting to hurt. An hour of walking anywhere causes extreme pain for days on end. Of course, hubby jokes and asks if our house is open enough for a scooter chair for me! I am only 28!

I am going to try the foot stretches and see if that will at least help a little.

I sure hope you get to feeling better, just know I am right there with you!

There is absolutely nothing worse than having sore feet so bad that you can't hardly walk!!! When my feet hurt, my whole body starts to hurt. I feel your pain.

My heel spurs are under control - only bother me sometimes, now, but when they were very bad (had to walk with a cane sometimes) one thing that helped temporarily was to stand with my toes on a step, then put my heels down so my toes point up at me, it stretches the leg and ankle and foot muscles, like some of the other excercises mentioned here. A good few minutes of doing that and I'd be ok to walk for another hour or so.

I have also heard that surgery hardly ever helps, so it is often discouraged by doctors who are not looking for a fast buck.

btw - I also felt better when I cut down on smoking and lost a little weight. But that is hard to do

, so I am not telling anyone they have to do that.

I am a nurse/massage therapist and could tell you a lot about your fasciitis. I can make it go away with one or two treatments!

Have done for many people....after they did the cortisone injections, wore the orthotics, bought expensive shoes, suffered for many months or years, had the surgeries, etc. to no avail. Sad how many docs make money off of folks' suffering, isn't it?

I've even perfomed this simple treatment at parties, at work, at church...it only takes a matter of minutes. It works every time and will stay gone if the person follows a few basic instructions.
