plastic poultry wire....anyone ever used this?

I use a wildlife netting to cover my runs, its very strong, 1/4in holes looks like black plastic hardware cloth. Dupont makes it, its called wildlife netting, Lowes carries it. The roll is 7ft by 100ft and it sells for $12.97 a roll. This stuff is very strong.

i used it to divide breeder pens in my barn & i had to put regular chicken wire 1 ft up from the bottom because my chickens ripped through it. other than that very easy to work with.

I rap my cages that are made with 2X4 wire with that stuff when I need to keep babys in.

Since a determined predator can get through the metal chicken wire, and hence the frequent recommendations to use hardware cloth, I would guess most predators could tear up the plastic netting quite easily. That said, I use it and love it. I use it to keep the chooks out of my garden - not to keep predators away from the chooks. For this purpose it is wonderful - lightweight and easy to use. I threaded bamboo stakes through it, fenced off the garden, and at the end of the season I'll roll it all up and store it away until next season, then let the chooks go to town on the remnants of the vegie garden.

Another factor to keep in mind is that sun is very hard on plastic so I don't anticipate this stuff lasting more than a year or two. For a more permanent option, you would really want to use wire.

:cdhi!mudpaw - my Home Depot plastic wire has not been predator tested because we have few predators and chix run is in already chainlink enclosed are. I have Jack Russells and they are not allowed to even TRY being near the plastic stuff...that said, I am mature(59), not terribly handy woman who pieced the run together in my living room!(final assembly of top and sides outside with assistance) it is SO easy to work with; no 'sticking' little nasty points like regular chicken wire and just cut with big scissors and put together with small/medium strap ties. I really enjoyed working with it...curled and staked to ground with many tent stakes...chicks haven't damaged it at all. good luck(and much fun) whatever you decide to build with...have greatly enjoyed my 'Chicken TV' since installing the ladies about 2 mos ago.

I only use it to contain chickens in a certain area. I'd never use it to protect them from anything.

I use it all the time, but just not for protection from predators. It is soo easy to work with.
However our little Jack Russel Terrorist walked up to it and bit through in one snap just to prove she could.
