Plastic Wrapping Runs

So to add a question, if that’s ok. How cold is cold enough to worry about wrapping the coop? I’m in The lower part of NE Georgia, so it may get in the 20’s at some point this winter, but for now 32 is the lowest we have seen.

I'm in northwest NJ. Seeing others wrapping seemed like a good idea. Last years wrapping was less than satisfactory. For me its not so much how cold it gets. It's more about the wind. The majority of my run doesn't have a cover on top, just hardware cloth. My coops are inside the run so hopefully the wrapping will block wind not only from their play area but from the coops keeping them more comfortable.

5 hours later i have wrapped 28 feet of the front, 10 feet of the closed end, and 20 feet along the back. The door will remain uncovered. The other 10 foot end is currently covered with a black tarp. I'll change that on Monday. The back part not covered by the clear wrap currently has an overlapping black tarp which will remain until next years winter. We need to wait for warm weather to finish the lean-to first. I'm pretty proud of myself even if it's not perfect.

Clear tarp wrapping. Yay!

Can you see thru it better in real life?
Yes but a bit cloudy. Photos pick up on the white thread grid that runs through it to strengthen it. It lets light through nicely. If you expand the picture a bit you can sort of see the white chair that lays on its side as a run perch closer to the right side end, and a reddish tint nearer to the door is a small coop. Its not totally clear but the chickens can see me walking outside the run.

Just finished wrapping the run. Used dollar store shower curtains, strapping, duck tape, screws and washers. Wrapped the curtains around the strapping. The curtains are very thin. Time will tell if they hold up. They are nice and clear.
