I think my pullet may actually be a cockerel and I'm heartbroken. I have absokutely no desire to have a rooster and being inside city limits am sure I can't anyway.....DOB 4/21/21 Buff Orpington/Americana. She has been really honky the last week or so but it's was still the tune of regular chicken chirps. Husband assured me it was a protective noise, our cat was nearby. Today it came out sounding like a rough crow....

Male, unfortunately. Also, it is not a Buff orp/ Ameraucana mix because it is a barred colas with yellow legs.
@nicalandia @The Moonshiner get over here. I’ve never seen a splash bird with barred black splashes.

Ok, so how can you tell?? We attempted to sex when we brought Chickie Nuggie home and were 50/50.

Want to know how I know?

Look at his neck. See those long , pointed feathers? those are called hackle feathers, only makes have that.

Next, on his back, near his tail.. again, lonnggg feathers. those are called saddle feathers.

and the long tail with the feathers starting to be angled downwards.

“Americana” is what the OP wrote, probably an EE cross then.
