Please help!!!!! Chicken attacked by husky.

Haha yes. So clean the wound with water since I don't have anything else to use? Do I just damp a towel and wipe down the wound? I will for sure spoil her. After this I'd like to see if my neighbours will give her to me.

The wound looks pretty good to me. You only want to wash it out once. You can use plain soap and water as @azygous mentioned earlier. Pat the wound dry, then apply your Neosporin.

As for her foods, I agree with @Eggcessive her normal feed dry or made into a mash is always best. Protein treats like the egg or tuna are also good. Personally, I would not add anything else or change up her diet. She may be a bit stressed by the attack and needs time to recover, the more "normal" things can be for her the better.

So glad you were able to get her from your neighbor - I hope they give her to you. You certainly deserve her :)
I lost my favorite bantam, Nighthorse, to a hawk today. In a covered run. Got her right through the wire. Silly little friendly thing always runs up to say hello. Very sad day so I am glad to see a story with a happy ending.
Aw thank you. She's become quite special to me.

I'm so sorry. :hugs That's awful. :( :hugs:hugs

I agree completely. I don't think I could take that from them. My littles are only about eight weeks so they are in the covered run and the grown ups run about as they please. The pic attached is little Nighthorse when she was 4 weeks old. She loved sitting on my arm.
Never realized that a hawk would be able to get through the wire like that.
I am really grateful for this thread though - good reminders about lots of natural remedies like the ol honey trick and a reminder of the toughness of chickens in luckier times.
She was so beautiful. Sorry again for your loss. It's never easy. :hugs

Wash once a day or once and for all?

That's what I'm doing right now. :)

How does it look?

It's looking great. I have had a few chickens with bad injuries also. They have pulled through and been right as rain. Usually, if they make it through the first 2-3 days without infection, they are good to go. As others have said also, if she starts to act normally (eat, drink, poop), she will be fine.

She laid an egg! :D

That's an excellent sign!

:hugs:hugs:hugsSo sorry, it's always hard to lose a favorite.

Whether you need to continue to wash out a wound each day depends on how large an area it covers. Most wounds require just the one initial flushing, then just keeping it clean and moist with an ointment is adequate.

X2!
