Please help!!!!! Chicken attacked by husky.

I really hope they give Sparx to you! Your compassion and growing animal husbandry skills would make you a great chicken keeper!
Thank you! I really hope so too. :) I'll show them the wound and hopefully take a picture of it every day till it completely heals and then maybe they'll see actually how serious is was. Now that the dog has gotten a taste of chicken I'm afraid it'll try again very soon. :hmm:( Aw thank you! I love chickens. I have 33? (I think) and have been an owner for over 8 years. Chickens are the best! :D

So glad that things are going well! Even though it may not be necessary this time, I just remembered the old cabbage leaf trick to draw out infection. I have not used this method on chickens as of yet, but it worked really well on a puncture wound on my Doberman's face and a cat abscess as well. I microwaved a cabbage leaf until limp and warm and applied it to the wound. I rotated between cabbage leaves for about an hour and a half (not the fastest method, but it really works). The wound eventually opened and seeped out all the puss and infection. I applied a little bit of diluted lavender oil and it completely healed!
I'm sure that there are better ways to deal with infection, but this really worked for me in a pinch when I had nothing else to use. Anyone ever tried this on a chicken before?

That's amazing! I've never heard of it before.

We should be on day 4 or 5 with the wound so I'm not sure if that would be useful anymore..... If not I'm going to save it in case this happens again. :D Thanks for sharing!

My mom taught me that trick several years back - She is a nurse and told me that cabbage leaves are used on women's breast for various reasons (clogged milk ducts, inflammation and helping to dry up breast milk) which kinda blows my mind... Cabbage! Anyhow, I am not sure of the science behind it, but it sure is cool that it works :)

That's very interesting. I know cabbage can do a lot of things and had no idea it could be used for infection! Do you think its worth trying it right now or is it too late?
