well that just changed our plans again

we have a book that says o.4 meters per chook for inside and 0.6 for outside, we have heaps of room outside it's just the coop we are worried about.
I am not complaining or anything because if it is good for the chook it happens. but that just down sizes my future chook numbers

oh well.

I think that would be really crowded, and they would pick at each other, without more room. You don't want that, for sure!
.4 meters= 1.3 feet
.6 meters= 2 feet

yes I will definately be making it comfortable for the chickens so less chickens it is.

Today we bought most of the materials and put the posts in the ground but it was just too hot to do anything else.
So it's going to be an early start tomorrow to get as much as possible done before it gets really hot.

I am also trying to teach the big group ( the oldest chooks and guineas ) how to get to bed at night from their outside cage to their brooder. I think it will take a while

Too hot, huh. I sure don't have that problem! I did, however, build on our coop last summer in horrible heat. YUK!

I worked on my breeder pens yesterday, and hope to get them finished next weekend. The part I hate is all the painting to do! I used alot of salvage lumber, and need to prime and seal it all.

What are you gonna use for bedding in your coop? I use pine shavings in mine. I think I am gonna use sand in this new build ... as it has a dirt floor (with small amout of gravel on it currently).

I am excited to move my babies out today or tomorrow. They have made a dusty mess in my garage! Keep working with those babies of yours ... it won't be long, and they will march right (at night) in all by themselves!

I am going to use straw for in the coop.

I have found a way to get them in their outside coop, at night I give them enough food to last them most of the night then when I take them out of a morning they are hungry so when they see I have their food dish they will follow me everywhere so I just put the food in their cage and they follow it. I wounder if this will work for putting them in at night. I hope it does.

Well, I have heard alot of people do use food to get them in! Sprinkle out a little scratch, and they go for it! Someone wrote that all they do is shake the can with the scratch in it, and they come running! Good idea!
