Just out of curiosity, why do geese/ waterfowl take so much longer to hatch out once pipped than chickens?

I have no idea, just know that they do... maybe cuz they're more independent and hard headed so they like to test our patience? lol...

Haha well he's definatley succeeding! I've been wasting away my weekend watching him! I have a whole set up complete with lawn chair and pillows. I'm literally sitting and staring into the incubator just talking to him telling him to hurry up haha

When my Calls are hatching it's usually 3 or 4 days of staring in the bator for me, just trying not to tear my hair out, lol...

Well just a few seconds ago I heard the little guy start peeping for te first time! I didn't think he was able

Well come to check him this morning and.... He's still in the egg. Does it really take this long sometimes? I'm starting to worry.

Has he opened the shell any farther? Is he talking, gasping, or struggling? Have you posted to the goose thread? I wish I could help more but I've only hatched chickens and turkeys, the timing is different and the indications of hatch readiness and distress are likely to be quite different.

Still peeping? Any struggling? Walnut got the distress symptoms... it can take a while, especially if he had a lot of yolk to absorb...
