please help me i have a 3-4 yr old bantam rooster alot smaller than normal size. when he was a "teeanager" he couldnt stand without falling over and his head always hung low, he has pigeon toes, when he crows its a barely crow and while i was sitting on my porch petting him i noticed a yellow crusty spot with backish coloring under it i tried picking at it thinking it was just dirt or something so i stopped and my mom said it might be a chicken tumor ( god i hope not) i had him since he was born i held him alot i know i shoulnt have i dont have any money for a vet i just want everyones opinion and hopefully a certain diagnoses. its still cold over where we live so i have a heat lamp going and it has the protective wire so they dont fly up and burn themselves i was thinkin that he might have stayed too close to the heat lamp for too long and might have burned himeslf. i dont know but please dont lie i rather have the truth be told then have him suffer and pretend he is as healthy as a horse.also he used to stay inside a lot and preen in front of the mirror i make sure he has clean bedding clean water everyday and food he gets out everyday. please any opinion would be better than none. thank you for your time. :D

Have you had the heat light on the whole time, all winter?? They can produce fumes that are not healthy for the birds. If he has been sick all this time that's not good, but please detail out the symptoms a little more. What does he eat, how well does he eat, what are his droppings like, any discharge, lameness, tremors. Just from what you've said it sounds like it might be a genetic condition...sometimes that happens.

yes i have had the heat lamp on it didnt really snow this last winter just rainy chilly and a few flurrys but it got kinda warm out so once in a great while i would turn it off. i dont know if he has been sick but he shivers even if its warm out, he gets cracked corn with wheat and these red balls all mixed together he eats it, he gets out and scavanges alot. i was thinking of four possibilities 1.) a spider bite, 2.) a nervous habit because he sleeps with his head in his wings maybe a nightmare

or 3.) a tumor, and maybe 4.) a old wound that never healed.

his poop is green with a white cap (normal) and sometimes carmel coloring he has had for a long time.he sneezes every once in a while and i believe when he was a baby he had a upper respitory infection, no lameness or discharge, and he doesnt peck at it.
the first picture is of the festering issue at hand it is close to his oil gland and is on his left hind quarter and the second picture is of him showing how small he is. thank you for your help.

idk. Have you tried antibiotics? I would suggest you call the chicken doctor, he's on a radio show on Monday mornings..it's called the Chicken whisperer, if you get on the chicken whisperer's website you will find out where to call to get on the radio talk show and that' swhat I would do, get on there and maybe Peter can help you.

Hmmm... Hard to tell. I would listen to the post above, and by the way bantams naturally shake, they are like chihuahuas. It's normal. About the spot.... Maybe use an ointment you could get at your local farm store? I really don't know. :/

ok thank you all for your advice im gunna try the chicken whisperer and until then i will put iodine on it to keep the infection down a little thankyou again
