Thank you from all my heart, Nambroth, that you have not forgotten me. She is doing the same... I gave her Flagyl but no improvement.. It was even worse a few days after the treatment because her crop was not emptying is the morning and she lost wheight(she had 1,7 kg from 1,8). After that, I gave her a few drops of grapefruit seed extract and her crop began to function normally. I continue with this and I give her 0,5 - 1 ml of aloe vera juice and some milk thistle for support the liver . And also I give her some medicinal charcoal for digestion. What do you think, Nambroth? How is your hen doing? I truly hope that she is okay. I have been thinking about you.
I don't know... but I will not give her any antibiotics or drugs anymore because she she took very much with no improvement and I think is a digestive problem or something with the liver because she took many drugs which could affected the liver and also maybe her diet was not really apropriate in the last year because I gave her every day human food ( even that she ate grains and crumbles, too).I know i have asked this question before, but what pills did your vet give her for coccidisois,i am asking b/c you mentioned your vet is not an avian vet and certain pills/coccidiostats do not target all strains of coccidiosis, for example sulmet(sulfamethazine) will target 2 strains, whereas Amprolium will target 9. While this is probably not the problem, there is just something about her condition that i have seen before and it is worth investigating. Coccidiosis does not always show up in a fecal float test for worms.
Treatment for blackhead is Flagyl (metronidazole) for 5 days at no less than 30mg/kg, but often they also have an e.Coli infection, and that needs a different antibiotic like Baytril, Cipro, Clavamox or Augmentin. OP says they gave Flagyl, but I don't know if they gave it for five days or if they did a follow up de-worming.Any thoughts if anyone think this could be blackhead.
